I know a guy who used to be no2 keeper for Motherwell (he played against celtic in the league cup). He wasnt anyone i knew well but he was very good friends with my mate. Anyway he called my pal up one night and told him to bet every penny he could muster on Craig Brown getting appointed for Motherwell. He had found out at the end of the training session the day before he was announced. Brown wasnt on any favourite lists at the time with the bookies. My mate made a fortune, he put on about 700 for him and the keeper in question whacked 4G on it and sure enough first thing in the morning Brown was announced. I imagine this sort of thing is rife.

I think it's more if he has bet on premier league games then who's to say he hasn't thrown games as Hamilton manager etc?

It never turns out to be this way.

there is also a lot of things like when a player finds out he will be starting or playing in a game and that player isnt a regular starter he can deliberately get booked in the 2nd half or something knowing he and his mates will have decent odds as he wasnt expected to start.

There was one in the reserves game where one team had 6 or 7 first team players playing against a team of under 19s basically and the team were 9/4 to win or something like that.

Needless to say the team at 9/4 won at a canter and there were rumours one bookie lost a 7 figure sum on it

I won £70 after putting £4 in the puggy last night happy days

Could be wrong but I think if any manager told an entire squad or even enough players to throw a game, there would be some kind of fall out along the line.

And if he was that desperate then he needs even more help.

Yeah that's what i would think, it's probably just more that it does throw up some awkward questions for him and Hamilton.

We will never eradicate it but while we take the sponsorship we can't really judge anyone who falls prey to betting.

even similar things like the yellow card example i gave.

Where a manager tells a certain player in the team that in the first 15 minutes i want you to leave a little bit on someone to "let him know he is in a game" effort and that manager sticks money on that player getting booked in the first 15 mins. Similar things like this are very common in other sports, for eg you had the cricket thing where a bowler would deliberately bowl a no ball in a certain innings. As bookies pump so much money into the sport the governing bodies need to take a zero tolerance approach.

Maybe the question should be turned round and asked as why is gambling in sport to a place where it can be used to essentially "cheat" the paying public?

Look throughout history. Gambling has been around for ever. People will gamble on sport and when caught, some have been heavily fined or in other countries, been jailed.

Yet we continue to think it's ok to let gambling companies have such huge exposure in our game?

Mental.

Cheltenham gonna be here soon Skybet did do a good deal last year, bet £20 on first race and if it loses you get it back to bet as you like. I picked a winner first horse and was £140 up but by the end of the festival I had lost it all pretty much

reports in Ireland saying Celtic linked with Motherwells Liam Donnelly

If i speak I am in big trouble

posted on 21/1/20

Doubt it. Lennon commented yesterday saying there was no room for Wanyama anyway with Soro coming in so I would doubt there's room for this Motherwell player.

I'd still like us to sign Turnbull in the summer maybe.....can imagine Ntcham going this summer probably

Turnbull is still 3 weeks away from full training, see when you think back, thank fluck we caught it

Although i think he could have played on with the injury, however, if it had snapped then his career would have been over.

We riot when Ntcham leaves.

Big sign of Ginger burning as he's chased him out.

Be interesting to see how he comes back....read interview with him the other day saying he couldn't walk properly for a couple of months and it sounded a pretty grim time for him.

Don't think he's anywhere near due back either....they are hoping he might be available April/May

Aye even when back in full training, he'll need to do a pre season so he won't be back playing by March at least.

His heart left us a long time ago despite his badge thumping.

Oh wait. He's never done that

Turnbull couldnt walk for a few months, his interview with McFadden on Saturday night was an eye opener, I like his attitude though and I think him coming to us in inevitable

He still gave me one of my top 3 moments as a Celtic fan in the last 10 years.

"here's Oliver Ntcham, to win the game"

Aw hardon!!!

Could see rangers going in for Turnbull when he's back fit too because it would be seen as one over us

Don't think they have the cash to blow £3 million on someone from the Scottish leagues mate.

Everything left in the pot went on Kent.

Hope we kick on again now but i sadly think we're more likely to drop points than Rangers over the next few weeks.

Maybe Hearts will do us a turn, Rangers will be without Morelos and Tavernier for that game at Tynecastle.
