I thought Laporte looked awesome yesterday 👍
Best bit of defending I’ve seen this season wgen sandwiched between two Sheff Utd players, being put under extreme pressure with City goal baying, he cleared the ball with his head
Magnificent 👍
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Quality player.

Given that £50m Stones is clearly not an adequate replacement, I wonder how much money Pep will need to spend in the summer to rectify that.

It won’t be his choice, it’s Begiristain that will decide that. Given what defenders are going for though, quite a lot I imagine.

Don’t think it’s a Stones replacement as such though, we haven’t replaced Kompany yet. If we sell Stones too, then we’ll probably need two new ones. Garcia I can see playing a lot more though, done very well the last month. He’s the Otamendi replacement though.

Gerrard's slip didn't lead to Rodgers being sacked.

Suarez leaving and Sturridge getting injured, as well as Sterling leaving, meaning our whole front line and being replaced by Balotelli, Benteke and Lambert, led to him being sacked.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It certainly led to me giving myself a hernia from laughing my facking asss off at the unintelligible, DJ beating, racist defending, Chelsea courting, micro-skulled rat eater.

"At one point it looked nailed on that VVD would go to City"

Really it never did.

This. Robb has made this up. City merely inquired, doubt they had any intention to sign him especially after van Dijk made it clearly he wanted to work under Klopp.

Regarding Liverpool, The sliding door moment was when Klopp agreed with Edwards and the powers that be at Liverpool with regards to signing record fee players after criticizing United for signing Pogba and Lukaku.

Chances are if Klopp did not have a change of heart Liverpool would not be as dominant as they are even though I still think they would compete even without van Dijk and Allisson.

My sliding door moment was when the powers at united allowed Fergie to recommend Moyes for the Job.

That has changed the landscape of the Premier League.

Klopp never signed a record fee player.

He signed 2 record fee players

Most paid for a defender and keeper at the time of purchase

Apparently Pep want van dijk to function as backup for Stones and Otamendi but 1. He thought the price was too high and 2. van dijk was set on joining Liverpool.

I think it's fair to say that vvd is the most influential player in europe for some time. You could argue and pick a Messi, but if you examine more closely, you'll see that the Argentine's individual brilliance is almost the sole factor of his goat status.

The Dutchman on the other hand combines his individual brilliance with the ability to 1. make other players play better 2. give Klopp more options to play a risky playstyle 3. force the opponent to adapt their style of play. Much like how the opposition concentrates to 'cage' Messi, it's the opposite for van dijk. The coach instructs their players to avoid his space, the fear factor is well in place, akin to Messi's.

Other attributes include leadership and the ability to organizing the whole defense together with his complete skillset makes him unique and imo will be regarded as the best defender for some time if he keeps his form untill he retires. Im basing it on pure defending, not on trophies since it's a collective effort.

One last thing to note is that Liverpool can afford to play both fullbacks high up because of van dijks (and Gomez) recoveryspeed aswell as his excellent reading of the game. I'd also like to point out that it seems like he's playing almost all of his games in first or second gear. Not breaking a sweat while he dominates. It wouldn't be farfetched to think that he would dominate in the Terry/Vidic/Rio era or even in the Maldini era. It's all too easy for him.

Now for the obvious assumption. Yes, if he joined City, they'd be unstoppable. An ideal Kompany replacement (the Belgian even named him the best CB in the premiership era despite not playing that long at the highest level) and along Laporte City would enjoy two ballplaying cb's while ruling the air and play with more risk.

Bonus: People compare Laporte and van Dijk and come to a consensus that they're the best cb's in the league. The Liverpoolman can do everything laporte does and better. So why does Pep rave about Laporte? Because he's defensively a behemoth? No. Because he scores lots of goals a la Ramos? No. because he leads the defensive line like a general? No. It's because he's left footed and can bring the ball forward well. He's also consistent in his defending but not without a few flaws. (Not being great in the air and can run at with a result, doesn't have a fear factor, is not a leader nor a genuine organizer. His speed is ok, but I reckon Gomez and van dijk are faster). Despite this, he is the best defender in City's ranks and they will be happy to see him get more games under his belt. In any case, football in general would always be better if the stars are divived among more teams.
