Out of our next 9 fixtures, only 3 are being played on a Saturday. That is ridiculous by any standard. Friday night is football night apparently.

Northern trains are so bad they might as well play on a night when you can't get home.

I will be at work until 8.30. I’ll be lurking though.

Ill be there. Probably about 3 months old last time this fixture happened in a competitive fixture. Plenty of options for the side. Does Marriott or Shinnie start? Do we give Lowe a rest? Do we keep Wisdom and Clarke together? Do we keep Lawrence in? Will Rooney sit deep as Palace and allow Sibley to play? Options all over the place. Ok View

..........Knight..............Sibley............
...Waggy........Rooney..........TL......

Let's give the holy trinity a try out and I wanna see Rooney get a goal. If it's going up then pull Rooney back, shift Waggy up there an Knight out onto the right.

Don't be shy give it a try. Try n bring Shinnie and Marriott on as subs methinks.

Northern trains are so bad I can't use them for night matches unless they are in Sheffield. I have a rail card (£70 for 3 years) which I can't use for evening matches as there is no suitable train, hence my annoyance at the lack of Saturday fixtures.

Pah! Don't talk to me about train services..............

Spart, what I was trying to say (badly), is that they are so crap, they dont even work on a Saturday, so they might as well be night matches.

Remarkably enough on Saturday all my connections were on time. A first. The Derby Sheffield train usually sits waiting just outside Sheffield station while my connection for Thorne leaves the station. Incredibly frustrating, then I have to catch the trans pennine express which is always late so miss the next connection in Doncaster.

The reason could have been that there weren't many travelling that day as the East Coast line only went as far as Peterborough.

Have I bored you enough with the minutiae and perverse pleasures of Northern rail travel, or perhaps you know.

Nah, I had to get a morning flight from Manchester a couple of Sundays ago. Northern don't run any trains from Liverpool until late on Sunday mornings, so taxi required.

When I got back on the following Saturday it was turmoil, so another taxi required unless I wanted to wait 2 hours.

So I spent £110 instead of £19 for the trains

In contract (for the sake if it) to ViewFrom. Good morning everyone. Hope we can dominate from the start, score early (twice) and avoid what could well be a banana skin.

Graeme Shinnie's Derby County

posted on 24/1/20

Want this one over, worst fixture we could have had. Only reason to win is to spare embarrassment and hope for a home game against a Premier league club next round. Hope Whittaker scores. He has really good fast feet and looks a real handful for defenders in the U23 league but yet to show any of that against older opposition. A goal could give him confidence.

Never saw anything that gave me confidence that Shinnie was an answer to any questions that might be asked, average player at best. Average players can be very useful if they have a limited role, thinking of Drinkwater for Leicester, but if asked to do something special at a club with more quality they struggle.

So, it's good enough for Lampard and Rooney but not Shinnie. Discrimination..........

Cantona may have scoffed at Didier Deschamps on the grounds that "il ne sera jamais qu'un porteur d'eau" but every good team needs such a water-carrier. Even the current Liverpool team has Henderson in that role. John McGovern was one such player in Brian Clough's great teams at Derby and Forest. He won't get in anyone's lists of all-time great teams but he won two league titles and 2 European Cups. He didn't get a single full international cap. I'm not saying Shinnie is of that standard but he's a very useful squad player.
