Tavernier and Jack out for another few weeks is a blow but Morelos is back for you and he should get you through tomorrow.

Aberdeen are rotten so if you don't take care of them on Saturday even without those 2 then something is wrong.

Making space in your squad for some of your talented youth players to break through?

Barker is terrible.

He looks like a fooking junkie. Pale and undernourished.

I was getting the Braga home game and the rearranged Hibs game mixed up. Hibs is the 8th Braga the 20th.

Jack and Tavs will be back for Braga.

Nathan Patterson is the outstanding one at youth level and he wasn't trusted against St Mirren or Hearts so I doubt SG is ready to rely on the youths for the crucial run in.

Silver might be able to tell you more, but my understanding is that some of the older young players (if that makes sense) are being offloaded to make space for the better younger players who are coming through the system.

that might be to create space at reserve rather than first team level at this point in time though.

I'd be fine with this. I don't think Barker at least should be blocking anyones opportunity. Move him on and see if others can make it

None of the guys being offloaded at the moment are really involved in the Development team.

Barker has played in maybe one Glasgow Cup game when he was trying to get back from fitness. He was useless in that as well..

Only really Docherty and Grezda have been involved at that level from the first team.

Letting guys like Barjonas, Mayo, Houston, Kelly, McCrorie etc go frees up space in the Development team.

A lot more of the Development Squad are training with the First Team more regularly but I just don't see them coming in and making a difference in the second half of the season when every point is a prisoner.

I would recall McCrorie for a start then we will need another two at least in if Doc, Barker and Jones go.

We have excess defenders but middle to front we are almost paper thin.

I’d be surprised if rangers didn’t add at least one more player before the end of the transfer window-even if it is a loan.

A loan player can give a bit of a boost at this time of the year.

We could loan them Soro and Klimali to get them ready for next season

I'm not that close to the Rangers situation, Ivan. I think Hamish probably summarises it better? Who trains with the first team is almost meaningless. The reality is you take out the injured players and excess in any position then you sometimes need to backfill with younger ones with the added bonus of getting a look at them. The ones going out on loan will be predominantly to see how they measure up in a real man's world and is critical to development. Doing the same at Celtic.

...the backfill to make a meaningful 11 v 11 in training

On top of injuries there's guys carry niggles all the time that play matches but are restricted to light runs and gym work. You'd be surprised the players that are in a protective boot one day and play the next.

I would disagree with Silver in saying that the youngsters training with the first team is largely meaningless and is mostly done to backfill injuries.

The Development team boys training with the first team and the ones that went to Dubai are the 'better' players who are closer to making the step up. Training with the first team is seen as a key step and the days they do they also have lunch in the first team canteen etc so it is seen as part of their personal development also.

James Maxwell, Kai Kennedy, Dapo Mebude, Nathan Patterson, are the ones in recent months who have started to be involved more with the first team training. And those lads are definitely the key players at development level.

I think it's fair to say Gerrard couldn't spot a decent winger if one fell on his scouse lap?

Either way, the problem is that neither OF manager is likely to give these lads a chance this season or next.
If either had a 16 year old Messi at the moment he'd probably get loaned to thistle.

I don't think we're disagreeing at all, Hamish? Sure, some boys are closer and sure they get something from it. Is it a predictor of 'making it in the first team'? Nah.

You guys have a separate canteen?

Getting rid of the dross signed by Mark Allen at least.

We're at least 3 players thin though. Possibly more.

And nothing really being mooted regarding incomings.

There has to be.

And not dross like Ojo, Jones & Barker either.

Has to be 2 that actually look as if they have seen a football before in their life.

Yeah there are two canteens at Auchenhowie.

There is a first team canteen and there is the youths/development team canteen which has the balcony overlooking the pitch with the new wee stand.

The girls team are using the development team canteen as well now.

The first team go in a different entrance at Auchenhowie as well. The complex is pretty much split between the first team and the rest.

That's one of the reasons that stepping up to train with the first team is seen as a big deal.
