Totally agree. BBC out of order for showing those clips based solely on Rudiger’s claims with zero evidence to support them. Then have that smarmy caaant Azpi repeating the same bollox as well.

Most people know Chelsea, along with West Ham and Millwall have massive problems with racism and associations with the far right more so than other clubs. Not saying it doesn’t happen in every ground but they should stick to sorting out their own problems instead of deflecting attention elsewhere.

Baddiel is Jewish and a Chelsea fan and therefore hates Spurs. He would have engineered the whole thing to smear Spurs as club as is his hatred for us.

He has been on a campaign to get us to stop using the Y word for years now. In honestly that's fair enough and probably time we look to stop using it in this day and age but that's another argument. What winds me up about Baddiel is his blatant bias for Chelsea and overlooking their racist chants, behavior, gas chamber mocking etc and having the audacity to have a go at Spurs for embracing the Y word. He really riles me, such a caant

To be fair, it was the first time the system was actively used in a Premier League game. Showing that at 7.00pm is preferable to hearing monkey chants or other offensive things. No agenda here, sorry folks. Think the pro-spurs bias is kicking in.

The point being mate, the BBC had no right to show footage of a game where no racial abuse took place.

He doesn't facking shut up about us and the Y word. Uses it to increase his mentions / reach cos he's an unfunny, washed up caant who can't gain relevance through any other means.

Hey Nick i'm all good thanks mate
How you doing? Confident of top 4? Seems like none of Chelsea, Spurs, Utd or Arsenal can string a few wins together

Yeah he has a real agenda to stop us using the Y word which to be fair he may have a point nowadays but there is always a tone of dislike for Spurs. I'll see if I can dig out any of his old articles.

Wouldn't surprise me if Wolves get it

Tbf Baddiel does have a point in the fact if we forget origins of where it come from and want to eradicate it then Spurs fans should stop singing it as well. This will open up a can of worms with Spurs fans

posted on 28/1/20

Yeah tbf he has a point in that regard. It took me till probably my teens before I realised it was a jewish term or slur towards them. Whether as I had spurs fans who called themselves the Y...army etc. But that doesn't mean all thought like that. Like I say I think the use of it has certainly changed and been minimized by opposition clubs which can only help in the long run.

posted on 28/1/20

They are definitely going to try and crack down on you lot chanting the Y word...I hope you don't give in.

Offence is taken not given, when you chant that you're not doing it to cause offence.

posted on 28/1/20

The thing is although the anti-Semitic stuff yelled at us in the stadiums has lessened theres still plenty of it on the trains/buses and outside the grounds so rightly or wrongly I don't think that Spurs fans chanting and singing songs incorporating the y word is going to stop anytime soon.

The other problem is alot people now refer to Spurs as the y without giving it a second thought or meaning it in a derogatory way. For example when I picked my boy up from school earlier a mate of mine (Utd fan) was doing the same and asked if we beat Southampton who have the y got next in the cup?

It'll take alot of getting rid of.

I might be a little naive here but I've always wondered why the Y word is considered an insult.

I'd always thought of it a kosher (no ad lib pun intended there) word to describe a race of people similar to the way the British were described as Anglo Saxon, the French Gauls or Belgians Flemish.

If you go on Google translate, you can even select Yiddish as a language - so why is it deemed insulting.

Genuinely not trying to wind anyone up but I'd like to know what the taken offence is!

I'm no expert but my understanding of the objections is that you wouldn't call a black person a n and in the same way you shouldn't call a Jewish person a y. Basically its an insult based on race/religion.

Alot of Jews don't mind it but some object very strongly.

But then why can you translate using the Yiddish language on Google translate?

It doesn't make any sense to me and in that context can't be (I wouldn't have thought) described as being in the same vein as say the N word!!

Yiddish is the historical language of the Ashkenazi Jews. It originated during the 9th century in Central Europe, providing the nascent Ashkenazi community with a High German-based vernacular fused with elements taken from Hebrew and Aramaic as well as from Slavic languages and traces of Romance languages. Wikipedia

Native speakers: (1.5 million cited 1986–1991 + half undated)

Ethnicity: Ashkenazi Jews

Native to: Central, Eastern and Western Europe

Writing system: Hebrew alphabet (Yiddish orthography)

Language family: Germanic languages, Indo-European languages

People also search for: Hebrew Language, Meänkieli dialects, Romani language, more

Regions: Europe, Israel, North America

So according to that it's the ancient language of a race of Jewish culture, which reinforces my confusion as to why it's considered an insult!!
