Agreed. Very lucky indeed. They could (and should) have been out of sight by half time. Could easily have been 0-4.

They're a great side and to keep a clean sheet against them shows we're slowly getting more resilience in that back four.

Saints have dipped a bit recently, but they'll still cause us problems.

Going 2-1

Does it? We didn't exactly keep a clean sheet because of our superb defending. It was more with their forwards having a day off and missing chances (and penalty) when open.

seriously? How could they have been 4-0 up at HT?

I think Sess is going to struggle whenever I see him he looks like a rabbit caught in the headlights so unsure and so tentative.

When he was played further forwards I never see him in the right place, when we want him forwards he is back and when we want him back he is forward I really do have major reservations about him.

As for Sandy and his attitude to yesterday thats just a joke. Yes it was great to win but it was more luck than judgement and anybody who rates Sanchez and Aurier as good really must have football knowledge of zero.

Overall the defending was pretty good. Their best chances came from individual errors - Sanchez bad pass, Aurier pen, Lloris/Tanganga colliding. It's these moments that need to be ironed out in an otherwise decent defensive showing

Credit needs to go to Lloris too. Saved the penalty and pulled off 2 great saves.

No game at the weekend so no excuse not to put our a strong team. Would defo like to see Ndombele get a chance, at the expense of Alli probably who doesnt need to risk his ankle. Would be good to see Winks & GLC start together again and start to build a good partnership.

Missed pen
Hit the post
Agüero somehow shooting at the dude netting from three yards
Cut back to Aguero 8 yards out and him somehow hitting it at Sanchez

There’s probably a couple of others I’ve missed...

Missed a pen.
Hit the post.
Skied a shot with Lloris nowhere to be seen.
Augero shooting wide from 1 yard out.

They also hit the bar in the second half.

But individual errors have always been the issue which you can't skip over. We were fine 'pretty good' in the CL final but a Sissoko handball cost us the game basically.

Most of the games we'd typically lose under Pochettino were due to individual errors too including Lloris and others.

I don't think having 19 shots go against you in a match is considered good defending personally. Yes we were clinical but our approach can't be like this always - same thing with Liverpool but we lost.

We can't create just 2 or 3 chances throughout an entire game and then say we were unlucky to get points against Liverpool because we didn't take those very limited chances.

So yesterday was a great result but not a masterclass especially when you take into account all the losses we've taken against big teams before that game - winning one of them and losing all the others is hardly a masterclass.

What game was Devonshire watching
Probably Could have been 0-5 at half time. They created 11 good chances in the first half.

Maybe with Tanganga rested and Verts in. Toby is getting back to his top form which is good to see. Winks and Lo Celso seems to thrive playing together. Winks tackle against De Bruyne is top class. Perfect timing.
Would have Lucas from the start too.
Hope we do the business in 90mins

Need to go strong, Saints are in form (bar Saturday) and a home draw next round means it`s an opportunity for a cup run
