"Ever heard that breakfast is the most important meal of the day? Or that skipping breakfast could be dangerous for your health? Or that vitamin-fortified cereals are the perfect breakfast meals? Thank advertisers for that.

Not everyone ate breakfast two centuries ago. And when they did, it was definitely not cereal. People in the 19th-century United States ate almost anything for breakfast. This was often eggs or whatever was left of the previous night’s dinner. Eggs were the perfect breakfast because they were easy to prepare. Hens also laid eggs in the mornings.

However, religion and advertising changed that when the Industrial Revolution came along. People left their farms to work in factories. Most started complaining of indigestion, which was blamed on the heavy meals they ate in the mornings.

In truth, it was because they did not need as much food because they did less intensive work in factories than they had on the farms. However, some members of the Seventh-day Adventist Church came to the rescue by inventing the “healthier” cornflakes to cure indigestion and other problems like ma sturbation.

However, cereals went mainstream when vitamins were discovered in the 1940s. Cereal makers added vitamins to their cereals and started promoting their products as the perfect breakfast. To ensure that more people ate breakfast, the companies advertised breakfast as the most important meal of the day.

The bacon-and-eggs industry did not just sit around and watch the cereal industry take over their market. Top bacon maker, Beech-Nut Packing Company, hired Edward Bernays to promote bacon as the perfect breakfast food. Bernays persuaded 5,000 doctors to agree that a heavy protein-rich breakfast is healthier than a light cereal breakfast.

Bernays had newspapers publish the results, which he styled like a regular scientific study. This made bacon and eggs another breakfast option. Although it countered cereals as the perfect breakfast meal, it reinforced the cereal industry notion that breakfast is the most important meal of the day."

Depends on what shift I'm on.

Breakfast stick from a greasy burger van. McDonalds sausage and egg mcmuffin if in on Sunday. Nothing on days off.

Actually, just because they pushed it doesn't mean it's not true. Science and logic would suggest breakfast is the most important meal. No wonder they were able to push that agenda so effectively.

What on earth is a breakfast stick? @DJ

I usually skip breakfast as it is the easiest way to do intermittent fasting and keep my body in ketosis. Breakfast being the most important meal is an outdated myth.

If I do eat breakfast it is usually toast &/or eggs. Mainly on weekends as when I'm not working or busy I get hungry out of boredom.

I eat backwards - I'm not hungry when I get up but when I get to work I'm usually reaaaaallly hungry, so at that point I eat a big plate of something like pasta or noodles with plenty of veg. This fills me up for a while & I go to the gym on lunch & feel pretty good, then have some cereal, banana, bit of a chicken afterwards.

Used to have cereal at home, but then I'd end up hungry again at 10am, eat the lunch I'd brought from home early and go out and buy another lunch at actual lunch. Then feel sleepy after and get nothing done, so had to switch it around a bit.

It really isn't a myth. It has proper science behind it.

The best way to fast intermittently is to skip supper, not breakfast. Do some research on how intermittent fasting works. A lot of people do stuff that doesn't really help them even when research is available.

So many projects, experiments and scientists have proven that breakfast is the most important meal. It's been proven over and over again so much so that very few experts doubt its true.

Just because a cereal company pushed it doesn't mean its not true People today are obsessed with "conspiracy theories" and tend to be dismissive. It's stupidity tbh. However, all the science points to breakfast being very important.

This isn't marijuana which was made illegal because of the timber industry. Leave the conspiracy theories for that.
