A bunch of middle/working class white men (who aren’t Jewish) don’t have have a right to say what is and isn’t offensive on this particular matter
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Where’s the bunch of middle class white males saying that this isn’t offensive?

Look across multiple social media sites and you’ll find loads of comments Winston.

I’ve never once said we shouldn’t sing the word. I choose not to

Each to their own. Doesn’t offend me

Personally I think the word Y word isn't offensive , it's like using the word Taffy to describe a Welsh person , harmless.

Exactly , to many soft touches about now days , it's the equivalent of me doing a survey and describing my self as white English when in fact I'm a human being.

To be fair Edward a lot of people unaware of the great works of Rik & Ade may well not trust your judgement. ๐Ÿ˜‚

Oh and it shows your age.

Well yeh, don’t think anyone disputed.

Problem is that it sounded like you were aiming it at people on here imo.

Its like the N word.

To some it is offensive, 100% of the time.

To others it is part of every day vocab. and used frequently.

While its use by some is simply not appropriate and it is also a term that can be used very negativity with the intention to insult.

With Y!D Spurs use is a positive context and one that actually disarms those who wish to use this against us or with the intention to insult.

It's a judgement call, there are definitely some things which are offensive whether the person saying it means offence or not and they should be stopped. Is the "Y" word as used by Spurs fans one of those?

Only one way to sort it get all the Jewish people in the UK to have a referendum on it. Referendums always sort things out and never lead to long term bitterness and animosity.

Well yeah he was. Otherwise why not say "anyone who isn't Jewish" rather than that asserting that white middle class/working class guys in particular can't have an opinion.

It’s not an unfair comment to say if you’re not Jewish you don’t have a stance on what is and isn’t acceptable.

Just like white people wouldn’t comment on the N bomb.

Anyway. We can agree to disagree

If you’re offended by the word in the context Spurs fans use it, you’re a tad simple in my opinion.

-----

The point is everyone can have an opinion, but if you are a white British male as the majority on this site probably are then your opinion on this can never be from a point of understanding as great as a person who suffers from discrimination due to colour, faith and so on will be.

Despite what the E.D.L tell us the white middle and working class in the country have never suffered institutional discrimination or sustained personal attacks because of thier background. It means it is harder for this group to understand what is or may be offensive to those who are/have been genuinely oppressed.

The word gives me liberal guilt, it doesn't bother me, but it bothers me that it doesn't bother me, as I worry it may offend others.
