Thread ratings are only really useful for polls.

I reckon over 99% of ratings (with the exceptions of polls) are either 1 star or 5 star.

I personally don’t rate Articles, but if I did why should I have to explain myself to you.

I'd just get rid of the star rating. Does anyone really click on an article because of its rating, rather than if they're interested in the subject?

Serves no purpose and just winds people up.

Most people don't use ratings properly and as Winston said it's 1 or 5. I'll sometimes give a 2 or a 3 for an article I disagree with but well written with good points.

Although there are certain articles where people should be named and shamed in my opinion, it's not really that important.

One star is better than no stars. Can't say it bothers me one jot. We have some one star warriors and if that gives them a little bit of a high then that's fine by me.

It's not a popularity contest, it's a forum for debate.

Not that this is critical but to give it more logical value a minimum of 3 or even 4 members actually voting would reduce its effect instead of just 1 or 2.
I high average rating from many more members is worth more than a 1 or 5 star from just 1 or 2.

But does it really matter?

Prompted by another thread which highlights the problems of social media abuse, I invite you to put an end to the anonymous rating of threads on this site
------------
Interested to know what you think the connection between the 2 is?

You cant seriously suggesting rating an article 1 star on ja606 is akin to abusing someone on social media?

I made a thread where I offered different ideas to Admin. He has yet to implement any of them

Maybe because they are useless?

Star ratings are only a personal opinion, and why does anyone need to know who gives that opinion on a star ?. You get the idea of their opinion anyway on how they answer to the thread, so what difference does a star rating make anyway ?. I don't give star ratings on here like every thread I post on. Just like this one. So what ?. The opinions are put in words, not stars, and you have the name of the poster anyway.

--------------------

Bloodred, ok, to try and answer your points:

First of all, I would define JA606 as social media.

However, and more importantly, I have witnessed people becoming distressed on here by both comments and, yes, un-attributed ratings. The fact that I, and by the sounds of it, your good-self, are seemingly unaffected by such, it doesn't mean that others are not becoming distressed.

What happens is you get some posters indulging in a petty vendetta where they one star all a particular persons articles because they may have been upset by them in the past.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
And knowing who they are enables you to do what?

Kamara, might I invite you to:

(1) Read the above articles about online abuse and their effects.

(2) Specifically in response to said articles, repeat your 'yawn' comment.

(3) Publish your real name and home address on here.

Maybe rather than give a one star because you were upset, offended, or just disagreed, it would be easier and more specific stating it in words, rather than trying to show it in how many stars you award them. Or does some think they really need to amass a large number of stars to feel good ?.

I disagree - 1 star.
