Var should only be used by the referee asking for it. Even then it must be his decision that is the final one.
The idea that someone sitting in front of a monitor miles away can stop the game and make the final decision is ridiculous.
One look at the monitor and the decision should be made, not replaying it time after time.

Bad idea - it’s annoying enough at the moment with players surrounding the ref when VAR is already looking at a situation - if it’s the refs decision it would be a nightmare!!
----------------------------------------------------------------------
That happened before VAR so its no different.

I agree to a point but I think it will make it 10 times worse as there is more potential for the ref to do something

Video ASSISTANT Referee

The clue is in the word assistant.

Dictionary definition:
noun. a person who assists or gives aid and support; helper. a person who is subordinate to another in rank, function, etc.; one holding a secondary rank in an office or post:

So in a nutshell VAR is in place to assist the referee and no more.
The faceless twonk in London staring at the monitor is not there to overule, override or undermine the Referee who is the man appointed to apply the rules of the game to the best of his ability.
The Referee should have the final say on all on-field decisions, that's what he is paid for. If, and only if requested by the referee due to being unsure of an important decision, then the assistant referee should advise. Analysing every goal electronically is unnecessary, unhelpful and not within the spirit of the game.

Perfectly stated Gem. I still feel it should be abandoned.

At a FIFA meeting on February 29th in Dublin a vote will be taken on whether to change the offside rule next season to help reduce the controversy that has arisen since the introduction of VAR. If the vote is carried then the rule will be revised to say that if any part of the attacker's body that can score a goal (ie not his hand) is in line with the last defender, then he will be deemed onside.

The 8 members of the FIFA board will vote and it will require 6 to be in favour for the rule to change.
