Thought Keane didn’t really get the point of the segment.

Comparing the players from the two seasons,

Carra: here’s some stats to back up why i pick this player.

Keane: I disagree, I’m loyal to this player

Keane was so amateurish that it just became pointless

Beckham was unreal that season. Yorke and Cole wouldn't have scored half as many without him.

He had 8 assists and 2 goals in our CL run, amazing stats for the 90s.

We had to play Barca, Bayern, Inter, Juve. The only easy game was Brondby. It was a very difficult route to the final.

I feel like 8 assists in the CL in any era is pretty incredible.

Beckham gets overlooked a lot but he was absolute class

why is anyone comparing these teams?

that united team won the treble. right now Liverpool haven't won anything.

if they win the treble sure compare, if they win just the league then compare them to teams who won the league, if they do the double plenty of comparison available there too, if they win the league and CL compare them to united 08.

they're always going to be known as the invincibles, but they did only win the league, for example if they'd had as many fixtures going after 3 trophies to the finals do they go all season unbeaten, who knows..

everyone wants to roll the united treble team out for comparisons but what they achieved is far more than this Liverpool team.

you could argue the 07-08 united was a better side but the 99 team are rolled out for their achievements.

so surely you should only bring another team with similar achievements to compare them with.

I have always thought the 08 team was our best side. They were solid aswell as fantastic going forward. We went into games where I just believed we would beat anyone. The only thing stopping us winning multiple CLs around that time was probably one of the greatest club sides ever

Im just going on some of the important goals he scored - like that one against Arsenal and the vital goal against Juve in the CL which pretty much kept us in the tie amongst others

Plus that 4 man midfield he was part of was incredibly balanced and I doubt a 4 as good and complimentary to each other has existed in English football since

But this exact same Liverpool side are the champions of Europe, and will win the league earlier than any other team.

Not a bad comparison. Though you could do the same with about 10 different teams in the premier league era alone.

Just watching it now, really interesting conversation.

The problem is that you're comparing a side that is doing brilliantly now with a side that did brilliantly over a long period.

As someone has said above - how can you compare the two, given what each of them has achieved?

Too early for this Liverpool side to be mentioned in the same breath as the United side imo.

That said, it's interesting to consider it player by player.

think it depends on what you are looking for.... a team of individual players or what would make a better team.

for example salah is a better player than cole, but for me there has never been a better season from a striking partnership than yorke and cole in 99.. so for me if its a team to win you competitions id go for those 2 every day

I think that’s it Winston, the debate/discussion isn’t which side is better, it’s going player by player and comparing those individuals as a fun little excercise.

So i don’t really see why people are saying you can’t compare them, of course you can compare players to other players.

The biggest issue is how the two teams play.

Beckham and Cole were primarily in the side the enable the strikers to score goals.

I'd say it's almost the other way around, with Firmino's main role in the side to enable Mane and Salah to destroy teams.

Stats don't really work in that instance.
