Well in fairness they probably weren't expecting Casilla to get a 12 game ban after being accused of racism.

Even promotion does not justify the risk

Premier league money does not run as deep as many think.

If leeds go up this season
we owe around £20m in player bonuses.
We owe wolves £15m even if we stay down
Potential £5m Meslier
How much would it cost for Harrison £10m?
How much would it cost for White £20m?
How much do we owe gfh and Cellino and maybe even Bates still?
That’s £70m gone just to keep the same team!
Add in the automatic wage increase clause in the present squad and their won’t be much left for new players.

Could have signed 4x Benrahma's from Nice for less thsn 5 million.

If we go up, our owners and recruitment need to sort it out or clear off.

Does anyone get the sense that Orta and Radz have no idea what they are doing?

Kebab is right to a degree, but where this bit about owing Bates abd Cellino comes from I don’t know, the contingent liabilities are quantified in the accounts and are mainly bonuses for promotion or transfer clause based on promotion, last set of accounts was around 18mill I think.

So there is 18 mill ish to pay them costa 15 mill then Augustin is that another 18 mill? That’s 50 mill you pay on getting promoted yet club doesn’t not receive 100+ mill on getting promoted so you have a clear potential cash flow issue.

You throw in Harrison and meslier that makes it 13 mill or so worse so you’re spending 60 mill plus to keep the same team that has laboured you get up over 2 years, which clearly needs strengthening even just fir this division let alone the prem.

I like the loan to buy idea. Test them out, see how they fit in your system, how they settle etc.

But these stipulation clauses to buy at the end, if you go up, if they play x games etc. It’s just deferred payment, buying on the never never, account fiddling depending on your perspective. It’s like - we’ll pay an inflated price if we go up because we’ll be able to afford it. How about we agree a sensible price in the first place rather than use it as a bargaining chip.

But hey I don’t know if these teams/ fees bandied around in the press are correct.

Im reminded of Cellino not playing antenucci to avoid triggering a contract clause. How dare he actually score goals!

What’s the deal with him if we get promoted

When you try and avoid the clauses you get a reputation. Players won’t want to come, clubs won’t want to deal with you.

this is also true, also, wasn't there something surrounding Seth Johnson back in the day? - seems to remember there was a bit of carve up there too?

Liw we’re paying half his season long loan fee of 3.4mill plus his wages and it’s another nearly 18 mill if we get promoted.

I did read that Milks but not sure where.. (maybe here)

thing is, we don't know if big Kev is a good deal or not yet, would prefer to wait and see before I cast my full opinion on it all.

If the financials are correct then promotion would only leave us with about 20-30 million to try and buy at least a top striker, midfielder and couple of defenders. Not impossible but more likely we will be struggling like Norwich and it will be a massive ask just to stay up.

Macca, whilst I agree.... I still prefer to live in la la land and believe we're going to get bought out by somebody that makes City's owners look like council dossers....

Still convinced we'll see a triple signing on sky sports news of Kun, Mbappe and Haaland

to be fair lads, I'm happy at least

Sheff U have proven that with shrewd signings and a canny manager you can not only survive, but thrive in the prem. Whether they maintain in future seasons we'll see. But by and large they're holding there own, with a core of players from the promotion side.

As you say promotion could/might open new doors to investment and the influx of our fantasy football manager signings !!!

He said it in some presser Spanish - as a justification for his fitness and why we were able to get him.

Hey if his goals get us up he’s worth it... wAait and see and judge retrospectively

I do get the concern in this article but I can't help but feel this is a standard Leeds fan mindset because of the Ridsdale era.

To be clear...I include myself in this too. Its not a dig.

My mates who support other clubs never seem to take an interest in costs and financials. I always do. Almost like its my own money.

I am not knocking but other club fans don't seem to do it as much...Even when some have reasons.

We were falling apart after a horrible run and have just pulled 2 superb performances together. We should be positive and thinking about our next run of games Nd hopefully building towards the PL.

If we were taken over I would expect Elland Road would be renamed something like The Qatar Airlines Stadium
and the selling rights would command a fair few million to add to our income no doubt.

It’s actually a core of misfits from their league 1 side. I think their manager has managed to blend an excellent defensive structure with a bit of bielsa press and committing numbers forward with the ball.

I think our side as is would do ok in the Prem. Norwich’s defensive record was poor in the championship and they were never going to repeat their goal scoring in the premiership. Cast irons for relegation before a ball was kicked in my view.

We would ship more goals than the blunts and struggle to score but think this side would survive and with a new keeper and striker be mid table.

Add a 10 and a winger as well and we’re champions league certs
