Yeah it was good, so many great sides.

Can't knock the result TBH.

The highlight was Neville's face at the end 😂

Where is the recent City side?

Looking at Villa, I think they won one European Cupand one title, equalling 9 points, whereas City have two titles, and three cups, given them 17. Unless I've missed something?

It was about the greatest ever English sides, which would immediately exclude Man C.

You need to look into 8.Everton 84-87. Everton were good but Liverpool better and won more.

Between seasons 84/85 to 87/86 Liverpool won two leagues, win the double league and fa cup 85/86. Everton won two league titles.

Also how could they miss the best Liverpool teams ever. The season we signed Barnes and Beardsley. So dominate. Won the league twice and twice runners up between 87/88 to 90/91 and won FA cup and reached finals few times.

Didnt get why they wanted runners up points in there. It should have been about what you won which would have given Liverpool the top 2 spots.

Puts us back on the perch i reckon 👍

no european trophies because liverpool got everyone banned from europe for 5 years, otherwise they may have been up that list

plus i dont think you can judge it the way they did.

this isnt a knock of the liverpool sides of yesteryear, but the CL is so much harder to win nowadays than it was during the 70's and early 80's.

instead of having to face either a barcelona or real madrid.. you may now have to face them both.

the fact that liverpool beat Borussia Mönchengladbach and bruge, while forest beat malmo shows how different it was.

Fair point Dunc but as it was the champions only back then you were never going to have to face more than 1 top team from any country unlike today where teams have up to 4 sides represented.

According to ELO (based on their criteria) we are the best English team ever, and 4th best ever.

Biggest Manc myth of all time. There was no European monopoly then like there is now. English clubs did not buy the best foreign players as they went to Spain and Italy but we still dominated that era. The best played the best. You did not get a Spurs in a final. Porto or Inter winning the CL.

Thats a really lazy argument mate, 1 even Gary Neville shut down last night. As he pointed out "you can only beat whats in front of you".

Youve mentioned monchengladbach there as is they were some sort if piiisstake. They won the bundesliga 3 years on the spin then as well as 2 uefa cups during the same period. Clearly Germanys dominant team. We also beat st etienne along the way who won their league 3 years on the spin. So to retort to you statement that nowadays you might need to beat real and barca, well that year was the equivalent of beating bayern and psg on route to the trophy.

Also bear in mind its the 70s. Players arent moving around europe joining the heavyweights as they do now. These so called "lesser sides" had some real talent in them.

Really really lazy argument man. Surely your better than that.

Couldn’t disagree more.

Only champions entered back then so you can take away the European cups for United in 99, Liverpool in 05 and Chelsea in 2012. Imagine that eh.

Instead of facing Barcelona or Real Madrid??
Firstly, they weren’t the greatest of sides back then. You’re judging them on the last 15 years. Secondly, we did actually face both in Europe - we actually beat Real Madrid in the final of 81.

I often see people saying “you played Monchengladbach” - err yes, they were the best team in Germany for goodness sake.

And Brugge. Little old Brugge who were beating Juventus, Milan, Real Madrid before finally getting beat by Liverpool.

It’s such a ridiculous argument to suggest that Brugge weren’t a great side. The only factor you could have used to come to such a conclusion is their standing today.

Has to be the 16-17 United treble winning side.

OP forgot Spurs 14-17.

not really a lazy argument though is it.
like i say, not wanting to take anything away from liverpool and what the achieved during that period, but for me it is much harder to win now.

you have to play more games to win the competition, and you are looking at 3 or 4 top teams from each major country, not just one.
i dont understand how people can not see how that makes it harder to win.

last season is a prime example.

you win the CL after finishing 4th the season before.
the competition is much vaster nowadays

If we went back to the old format, how many European cups would be taken away from England in the last 30 years?

Go on, have a go.
