We’ve now won the same amount of games this season as the 03/04 Arsenal Invincible side “26”!

It’s February!
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Pretty sure I read somewhere we equalled United league winning points tally in 99 as well.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yep, they won the league on 79 points that season!

Winning 22 games, drawing 13, losing 3.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
But according to Shinji we need to win the league, CL, FA Cup, get a record points total AND go unbeaten to be better
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Did I say that?

Behind the Leicester team that won it. Liverpool barely beat Norwich and West Ham ffs.

I haven’t read the 8 pages of comments but I firmly believe that Pep’s City and Klopp’s Liverpool may not be as entertaining as say .. Wengers Arsenal side from (97-2004) but I have no doubt that both teams would blow them away.

The teams now are so strong, cover so much ground, press defences. It can’t be just chance that City and Liverpool both are had/having 2 seasons back to back of near 200 points - we might actually surpass thar mark. It’s simply unprecedented.

To win at such a rate whilst simultaneously competing for the European Cup - something that Wengers Arsenal, Jose’s Chelsea and even Peps City didn’t/haven’t yet achieved is the stuff of dreams.

If you look back at the 90s for example, the bottom 7-8 clubs were absolute fodder and I mean really garbage. Teams that wouldn’t look out of place in today’s league one.

Today’s Norwich city for example would beat every team in the bottom half of the PL in the 98/99 season. Of that I’ve no doubt.

United’s wingers would have a field day with some of the teams now though so it’s swings and roundabouts. No one attacks down the flanks any more and fullbacks have changed entirely as a consequence.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It would be interesting to see a top 442 team against a current 433 top team. I suspect the modern formation would win but there would be significant counter attack threat from the wingers and god knows how the modern wingbacks would cope
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The 4-4-2 wingers would spend most of their time defending, as the 4-3-3 full backs push up and the 4-3-3 midfielders control possession and get the ball to the full backs.

Sometimes weaker teams employ this system against 4-3-3, conceding possession and using defensive wingers, hoping for counter attacks as the 4-4-3 attack breaks down.

United's 4-4-2 wingers would likely struggle against 4-3-3 and certainly wouldn't be hitting the numbers the 4-3-3 wingers hit. For me 4-3-3 will be the dominant formation until some rule change means other systems flourish. This is what has happened throughout history.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Who's the 12th guy in your 443 ?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Struggling with 4+3+3? My four year old has a higher IQ that you, clogs for brains.

Reminds me of the debate of which was the more 'entertaining' Barca side. Rijkaard's or Pep's?

I didn't find Pep's Barca side entertaining. I found them extremely frustrating to watch. Don't get me wrong, it was genius and highly skillful the way they moved the ball but it just frustrated me. It was complete domination and therefore poor for the neutral.

I agree. Essentially it was just too good that it made less entertainment. It’s like watching Floyd Mayweather fight, it’s extremely impressive but boring by the end of it

To be honest, both chelsea and city currently have better squads. They are just not well-motivated or organised.

The former issue comes from within the individuals concerned, the latter from the coaching/mangaging.

Leicester demonstrated perfectly how to mount a suçcessful league campaign with all the capable bits in the right places doing the right thing.

Liverpool learnt from that, but neither chelsea, city or united did. Plus united also had, and held onto, too many deadbeats whilst offloading their only decent striker and best cb

Pointed out last season that Klopp was the new Wenger, i.e. a master of gestalt, and that is proving to be the case.
