Ighalo

He will make a quality squad player

Looking at the squad you’ve got two, in my humble opinion, excellent wide forwards (AM and Rash) but we don’t have a CF.

I think I’m the summer we need a 9 and let the aforementioned players battle it out for that LW position and bring in a RW then you’ve got AM/Rash on the bench as option to go with Greenwood & Ighalo

Keep Pogba and then you’ve got Mct/ PP/ BF as your first choice with Fred, Matic & Mata back up with the kids coming through like garner and Gomes

That’s not a bad squad, can it win the league? Maybe not but it’s a squad with depth and options and suddenly you’ve got Maguire and Bailly as CB with Lindelof and Jones (while derided but useful) as cover and then Shaw and Williams at LB and AWB locked down RB.

He offers us something different tl Martial who i personally think is less of an issue than many on here.

I'd put a RW, CM (if Pog leaves) and CB higher on the shopping list. I think in Fernandes, Martial and Rashford we have goals.

I'm guilty of thinking and commenting wtf when we were in for him

Doesn't mean i don't want him to be a success though

Given he's a childhood united supporter, comes across as humble etc... I'd actually love him to score 5/6 goals by the end of the season and prove himself

if i could be fecked id love to trawl back through at have a chuckle at all those who were knocking him and the signing before he had even kicked a ball

While this isn't right, and people should never judge a book by its cover, the same could be said for you now. He could now go on to have a woeful time. I mean its just europa league. Will take a while before he can be judged fairly.

I laughed when we were linked to him, it was completely random and not one of our millions of fans worldwide would've said 'we should go for Ighalo as backup' when the transfer window opened.

Having said that, I didn't think it was a terrible move as a short term loan, last night being the reason. Being able to give Martial a rest while still fielding a capable striker in his natural position, for others to work off. Not having to shove Lingard into a 'false 9 role' or sticking James up front.

I also preferred this short term loan to the option of signing someone like Josh King for an inflated fee and being stuck with another average squad player after this season ended.

It's a sensible squad option for the short term, and if he proves to be anything more than that it's a bonus.

Also a nice story for him personally too, which is always refreshing to see in football, happy for him last night

Having said that, I'd have still done the odd 'IghaLol comments if Spurs had loaned him.

Although that would've proven good business as it happens for them

Bit early for us to be gloating but agree OP, he seems to be a decent interim option for us.

Clearly there's some talent there but with these short term loads, sometimes you just need a bit of luck.

Ighalo scores goals. My wife is Nigerian so I watch a lot of the Nigerian team play and Ighalo is a quality player.

Hope we can convince him to stay

I hope he can prove himself for the possibility to be raised

There's value in an older different option rather than blowing big money on another forward... Given that Greenwood will be a year on in his development, Rashford kicking on and martial form

Its still early days with Ighalo... If he can score a few and make an impact in league games who knows

Top 5 strikers in the world at the moment:

1. Lewandowski
2. Haaland (if we get him)
3. Ighalo
4. Rashford
5. Kane

If over the rest of the season Ighalo does perform in a way that would justify considering a permanent move, any idea what he would cost? Given he has taken a pay cut to join United, is there any chance he'd cost significant money?

[Decided to check before posting - apparently he only went for £20m when he left Watford for China, so probably not]

If Pogba leaves I wouldn’t buy a cm to replace him, I’d bring through one of the kids, given you’d expect Bruno, mct and Fred to play most games.

How likely is it that we don't go through a sustained period next season with two senior midfielders out of action? On paper we have a good attack this season but suddenly we have issues when Martial and Rashford are injured.

We need a bit more quality in depth, in my opinion.

If pogba goes we need 2 midfielders in... Matic is out of contract so we definitely need a DM

Surely as a Liverpool fan you wouldn't be so daft to underestimate the signing of unheralded players that fit in well with a plan?

Daft comment when 2 of your first 11 were scooped from relegated sides

People are only talking about Ighalo as a stop gap or squad option
