We want a club finishing top six to win the FA cup don't we, opening up European spots further down the table or am I wrong?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
If Man City win the FA cup it won't open up any slots unless the European ban is overturned.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
But would City winning the FA cup and being banned mean an extra spot is still available?

Pretty confident the ban will be overturned. If not I assume 5th is a CL spot and down to 8th(?) Is an EL spot?

posted on 5/3/20

Yeah that makes no sense. Surely if Man City are banned from Europe, them winning the FA Cup will definitely open up another spot in the league.

posted on 5/3/20

Haven't seen any confirmation but that is what I would assume. We get three EL spots regardless of where they come from don't we?

Assuming ban is upheld. City have won the Carabao so that has opened up seventh to Europe already. If they win the FA cup that would open up eighth?

If Chelsea, Spurs or Arsenal finish 5 the ban will be upheld

If Leicester, Wolves or Blades finish 5 the ban will be downgraded to a fine

Facto !

Looking back at the team that won the championship for us, there are a number of players who are still the nucleus of our first team; Boly, Neves, Jota, Coady, Saiss, Doherty.

Other regulars of that season that have now been replaced by higher quality players are; Ruddy, Douglas, Costa, Cavaleiro, Bennett and Bonatini.

It’s been a gradual change not a revolution since we moved to the top flight and progressed to Europe and much of that is down to the ability of Nuno and his coaching staff to improve players

Matt Doherty has been back to his best in recent games and that has been recognised by him being nominated for the Premier League player of the month for February. He is up against Alonso, Aubameyang, Fernandes, Calvert-Lewin, Pope

Brighton face a daunting run of fixtures if they are to avoid relegation. After Molineux they have games against Arsenal, Man Utd, Liverpool and Man City although there is a game against Norwich in the middle of those. Their new manager Graham Potter has made them a possession team and they are in the top 6 as far as possession time goes. So we’ll just have to smash them on the break which suits us fine

brighton represent a daunting challenge - they are our biggest bogey team.
our record against them in the top tier is
P9 W0 D2 L7

You make a very valid point in your remarks DJ. The last paragraph emphasizes Nuno's aim, and that is to work with a small senior squad and to integrate the younger ones, at the same time, improving all the players he has at his disposal. I'm sure we'll see more of Kilman and Burr who has had a three and a half extension to his contract.

I'm sure if the right players become available in the summer and Nuno deems them better than what we have at the moment, then the purse strings will be released. But until then, he's doing a great job with the players he has right now.

All the senior players are getting game time, which bodes well for keeping them all happy.

You don't half love banging the small squad drum on your own against all of us and the club.

Of course we will see more of kilman and buur, we have no other feckin options

Having complained of lack of access to away and Europa tickets for "mere" season ticket holders, an opportunity comes to pass for supporters with 1080 points to purchase Olympiacos away. Ive got leave to use up before April too.

Guess who committed to stand duty at a conference in Liverpool for three days this week?

Would have liked to visit Athens again, haven’t been there for years. You don’t get stuffed vine leaves and retsina elsewhere in Europe

When I were a youngster we holidayed in Aegina which is an island about an hour from Athens. The hotel held a raffle for all new guests to win a trip to Athens for the day and me being the only lad in the room I was picked to draw the name............I pulled my mum and dad .

Football stadiums are no place for old fogeys like wolfie and sandy. Better for the clubs as well as they get full price for their tickets. Win, win.

After sitting near the Espanyol Ultras, and in the Spurs corporate area(lovely bar by the way), I can shout as much as I want tomorrow from my lofty North Bank perch, and bought this afternoon ticket for Olympiakos because as Oldgoldilox says they have become available to lower points holders like us, it’s a busy and exciting time, would not be doing this unless I had not become single, (after a long marriage) anyway the teams confidence must be massive and Nuno must surely instruct them to come out of the blocks quickly early doors and get that first goal for a change

Yeah this is pretty much a must win to me, if we want a good finish then winning at home to a very mediocre Brighton is a must.
