Bellingham ability wise if on a different planet to phillips.
Nobody going to pay £50m for phillips
LIW is spot on. Bellingham is an attacker for starters.
Bellingham is insanely good. And still so young.

Bellingham is another tier up from Phillip's and is an AMC. Very talented player. Phillips is quality, but Bellingham in his position, is better when you equate it to Phillip's position.
If Phillip's gets an england cap then personally I think his value reaches 20 million
Think its 15ish without it

Not denying Bellingham is skilful, but both players have valuable if different skill sets.
We'd heard talk of 25 mill for Philips in summer, if bar gets set by Bellingham at 30 mill for just potential, then a more proven valuable player could well go for more and if I was Leeds I would be demanding no less than 50 mill. That would fund Costa and Augustin and pay off our contingent liabilities freeing up funding for signing other loanees
But transfer don’t work that way.
There are no set rules apart from what someone is willing to pay.
Clarke went for £8m based on very little.
Nobody going to pay £50m for phillips or much more than half.
This bellington kid looks that special, that nobody wants to miss out on him, so the cost just rises
Transfers work on perceived value. If you're short of a holding midfielder but have loads of Bellingham type players, the price you're prepared to pay for Philips rises.
Transfer fees go up every year and we see some and scratch our heads, how much would you pay for Ben White ? £20m ? Is Maguire 4 times the player White is ? As LIW says players are worth what anyone will pay,
Reality is KP and MB will go if we do not go up.
Bielsa would walk if we went up and sold KP
Transfers aren't a simple science as stated above - there's many factors so the perceived value on players doesn't make too much difference.
How much does a club want / need a certain type of player.
How much does the selling club still need the play.
how much time left on contracts.
all massive factors in the money paid out.

-----------------
not sure I agree MB would walk if we sold KP.
but what I will say, echoeing a thread the other day, I'd rather MB is in charge of transfers, at the time meaning inbounds, but also I'd rather MB has the say so if a player stays or goes.
in short, give the power to MB, his budget, and his squad.
The price is what someone is prepared to pay. No rhyme or reason.
If we get promoted there's no reason to sell Phillips.
Phillips wants to play for Leeds in the Premier. If we then get relegated he will be snapped up by someone as long as he has maintained his standard.
He may go after one season in the prem even if we stay up
