It's quite interesting actually - the tippy tappy football has become a bit predictable, perhaps?
We created pretty much all the chances. Who wants to watch a team have all the ball and create feck all. Borrrrring
Should have been 3 or 4-0
in a lot of games the team with possession and chances usually are the better team, yesterday was not one of those games, utd played a good game plan and city looked bereft of ideas.
For a keeper having had some nervy moments in recent months, DDG was comfortable all game and rarely tested, which doesn't suggest they had victory stolen.
There's very rarely an 'undeserved' victory, anyway.
Managers set up their teams to win the game. If that means conceding territory and/or possession, so what?
Most of it none threatening though tbf, and didn’t take our chances when we got them. We are a better team than United no doubt but we didn’t deserve to win yesterday.
KDB makes such a big difference to them. Last year B Silva stepped up but this season he has been poor while D Silva looks like he's on retirement mode.
Was a big chance for Foden but he didnt turn up.
Without one of prime Silva, KDB or Fernandinho in MF we don’t have anyone driving us forward or dictating play. That’s why for all the ball we had it was fairly comfortable for United at the back (or at least part of why) Was a big chance for Foden yesterday, hopefully he will still get there.

Dont know why people expect foden to suddenly be as good as an averge david Silva. Those are huge boots to fill and he will have to be phased into it.
For all the KDB love in, what City miss is a very good David Silva. He is the one that releases the wingers and makes city lethal.
I thought Foden looked impressive once he came inside, was feeding Mahrez in dangerous positions consistently and was always on the ball moving it along, that's where his future lies. We defended well and got out to him and others in numbers, so it wasn't easy.

Good point anout Fernandinho, he is actually a playmaker for City in midfield and they have missed him. Rodri just isn't there yet.
And Peps love in with Gundagon this season means the football has become slow and laboured

Seems though that Pep has no second plan. He did against Madrid, but often in games we see that City batter the Opposition but still lose the game.

Foden won't replace Silva, at best he can base his game on KDB. That's what I think he is capable of. David Silva is a rare breed. City would have to buy to replace him.
Mike - totally agree, Foden absolutely needs to be inside and it’s a fairly pointless exercise having him wider.
Gunner - Rodri I’m still not sure. Maybe it’s because he does the more unfashionable work in a side that plays (or tries to play) attractive football. For me though he just doesn’t look mobile enough. Fernandinho and Toure could both win in and then drive it forwards past a few oppo players in the process. Haven’t seen much of that from Rodri.
Gundogan should be utilised sparingly. His decision making in the final third is often poor.
As for the comment about Pep not having a second plan, I thought we looked a bit better when Mahrez came on, although I admit I had lost a little interest by this point and was more into the beer... Pep can’t do anything about Sterling missing an absolute banker, or Aguero being offside by a fingernail. On another day we could quite easily be sat here with a totally different result, but it was Uniteds day and they were fair value for the win.
A strange inconsistency to City this season, never sure which version will turn up.
Thought United deserved the win on the balance of the game.
All City can do now is focus on the Champions League, on their day they can beat anyone but when the going gets tough i think they lack the hardened leaders and battling qualities to beat the best around.
Possession in these types of games will change based on what has happened in the game. If United didn't nick the first goal, you'd expect they would have had more possession but getting the first goal means they will sit back, invite City on to them and then counter. This happens to City every week, they're used to it but United defended very well.
United were dominant even without the ball yesterday.
“on their day they can beat anyone but when the going gets tough i think they lack the hardened leaders and battling qualities to beat the best around”
Ultimately football is cyclical and a lot of our key players are coming to the end of theirs. People think it’s a cop out but Laporte also makes such a big difference to us, reads the game so well and allows Fernandinho to play in his natural position. Not saying we’d necessarily still be in with a chance of the title, but his absence has definitely hurt us this year.

I think it's a Pep blind spot personally.
He will always choose the technical player over the warrior and i think he needs more of a blend. There's usually a soft mentality in his teams as well that suggests he needs more leaders.
I guess the mighty blues were due a damp squib of a performance at Old trafford after owning it for so many recent visits

Can’t agree with that tbh. Look at Fernandes at United he’s a technical player, but he’s also a leader on the pitch. Likewise with players like De Bruyne. If you look at what we achieved last season I don’t think you can say we have a soft mentality. Underwhelming year in the league but we will dust off and go again next year, still two trophies left to play for before then though.
