Mctominay and Fred over Matic every single day of the week.
as for the extension.... does he deserve it.. probably not based on how poor he has been other than the very first 6 months and the last couple.
makes you question his mentality if he has only performed when first signed and when he needs a new contract.

I've never been the biggest fan of Matic but he possesses a footballing IQ that Fred or McT dont. Not that the latter 2 are unintelligent, but Matic is the only specialist DM in this squad. I suppose its horses for courses - when we're up against City I'd want Matic in there.
I'd prefer to see Matic replaced for a younger version, but if we cant get that this summer I wouldnt see the harm in him staying on.
With regards to his new found form - it might just be that we're managing him better in terms of only giving him 1 game a week? Or that he's also benefitting from having a more competent midfield around him?

He isn’t playing in a three.
We play with a two man pivot in central midfield.
Bruno has been playing across the supporting line, actually higher than the wingers in the 4-2-3-1. And against City, if you look at his heat map he was playing higher up than James and Martial most of the time.
He hasn’t played in midfield since his first two games.

fernandes is not a traditional number 10 and we would be foolish to simply put him in that box. Imo opinion he is halfway house between a number 8 and a number 10. He can probably play either role but I think he is best when allowed to use his intelligence to drift between the roles
a bit like pogba imo. Although unlike pogba fernandes is showing intelligence that he understands how to use the freedom he is given for the sake of the team, When pogba is given the freedoom he only wants personal glory

I think it’s a good move tbh.
He’s been our best player over the last three months, and that isn’t because we have had other decent performers. He’s been brilliant.
Model pro, unfussy, not particularly expensive contractually, fantastic experience, cool head, no doubt useful to the likes of McT and Garner, and now we’ve secured a transfer fee if he goes next winter or summer.
Given that Pereira will certainly be going, likely Pogba and maybe Lingard, and that Garner won’t take up a squad place next season, I don’t see the problem tbh.
