It's more the speed with which it spreads and the impact on public services. We have seen in Italy that the health service becomes overloaded and the death rate increases because of it. It's up around 1,000deaths there now and of approx.15,000 infections only about 1,200 have actually fully recovered.

Given how the NHS is already overstretched, there is no way it will be able to cope with what is coming and the death rate will likely be higher because of it. For me, the government isn't doing enough.

I think the main difference between this and SARS is that it seems to be a lot more virulent so more people are likely to contract it.

Conversely the other thing I noticed was that about 30,000 people have been tested and of those only 500 have the infection. To have been tested they must have had some symptoms so over 98% presumably had some other kind of flu or cold virus.

Let's be honest, every fecker in the UK has a chesty cough or feckin cold half the year so this virus won't help them.

But whilst i get what you are saying to a degree gem and I do think some numbers being thrown about are pretty ridiculous like 100,000 may die in the UK etc I do still think measures need to be taken to try and contain it though that said it really looks like it's a little late now without martial law.

Nice that lots of money is going into the nhs to help cope with the virus. Hopefully they will be able to pluck new doctors and nurses from a magic box to enable the money to be spent wisely
