A lot of them will lose their jobs/apartments I’d imagine, Right now I fear for anyone who works in a service/travel industry job.

I’ll be fine working from home but a lot of people won’t be so lucky if there’s prolonged lockdowns.

What we will see is which businesses are truly strong and which are living on the edge. Apple have pulled their marketing spend because they can’t get new units out of their production facilities in China. They’ll be able to absorb the hit, but a lot of SMEs with similar reliance on Far East/Asian production are going to go out of business.

I’ll be spending the next few weeks/months looking for opportunities to recoup the value of my portfolio, which has dropped over twenty percent in the last week. I have to be optimistic that it’ll all bounce back, but right now it’s added about 2 years to my retirement plan.

I think a little bit OTT Sandy mate. The world will not be shutting down for a couple of years and we are not in Armageddon mate. The media are fuelling this mass hysteria, which in turn is making people act like lunatics with their selfish acts in terms of ransacking the supermarkets. China, who were a severe case, miles worse than any country in Europe have curbed it and now are at single figures daily in regards to new cases. If we follow the guidelines and the countries do their part over the next month, this will tackle it and the hot weather incoming will also kill the virus. No need for this mass hysteria mate, it’s getting ridiculous.

This is true, but the impact is already being felt. The likes of Jet2, TUI, Trivago etc have all canned their marketing campaigns and pulled their holidays, which has knock on effects for airlines, hotels etc. These decision that have been taken will cost tens of thousands of jobs. It doesn’t take a couple of years of shutdown for many business to cave and jobs to be lost. In fact, in a lot of cases it only takes days/weeks.

I see Virgin Group have asked for a multi-billion pound bailout this morning. The first of many requests no doubt.

I’m not saying their won’t be an impact mate, but to say the world will come to a half for a couple of years Is so OTT and not true. 9/11, whilst not as severe still completely sent the airline industry into meltdown and it recovered. We will recover from this and this will be tackled very soon. We need to stop with this mass panic, it’s making things miles worse and the media are fuelling it to.

Unless the UK is going to lockdown whole cities, which it isn’t, you can’t really compare our situation to China.

But most probably it will. The severe cases in Europe are in lockdown. Italy have already seen a decrease in certain regions, it’s working. People need to get a bloody grip.

Then we need to hope for a U-turn from the government because I fear their plan is going to lead to a lot of unnecessary deaths.

Spot on. Due to China leadership no country could react like they did and knock up two hospitals in a week.

China is an authoritarian police state where folk were most likely kept indoors at gun point
I don’t see that happening in London or Dublin

I think most sane people will follow the guidelines as they don’t want to get unwell. Don’t think you need a gun to your head to make you restrict yourself for a few weeks mate.

Possibly. I don’t think that’s in the plan but I imagine the rate this thing spreads, it’ll have to happen eventually.

If the tories get this wrong, their party is in huge danger.

Do people actually believe the figures coming out of China?

Considering the population of the country and how fast it spreads those figures seem pretty much impossible

A lot of people with covid19 will say nothing out of fear and China probably make their numbers up anyway

Don, absolutely. A lot are living in a dream world, if they think, eventually we don`t go down the China route, and lock down everything. It is definitely coming. This is going to affect the whole world for a very, very long time.

Matt Hancock wrote an article in the Telegraph about the next steps this morning and put it behind a fecking paywall.

They lifted it once people pointed it out, but come on

I agree mate, but I don’t think this will prolong to much mate. It will be curbed drastically I’m telling you. People need to get a grip and stop panicking.

To be fair Don, I said a couple of months back, that football would be suspended, and most on the boards laughed. I am now saying this will go on a lot longer than a few months. I am looking at what is happening all around the world. Europe is probably even worse now, than China at its peak, and it has not even peaked in Europe yet.
