Then we need to hope for a U-turn from the government because I fear their plan is going to lead to a lot of unnecessary deaths.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Pretty certain we will go into a Italy style lockdown soon for a few weeks.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Possibly. I don’t think that’s in the plan but I imagine the rate this thing spreads, it’ll have to happen eventually.

If the tories get this wrong, their party is in huge danger.

Tax cuts for the sick will be the new policy

No they are not, they will be taking the advice of specialists, the same specialists any other government would take advice from. I doubt anybody will blame the government, this is an act of god that is almost impossible to completely control.

Yes; but when their approach differs from almost everyone else's, and when it looks to many like a cold-hearted, economy-first approach (I'm not necessarily saying it is that), then they will be blamed, make no mistake.

The long term financial ramifications for millions will be huge if we just shut everything down for 2 years as the OP suggests.

Very many companies, large ones, won't survive so the upshot will be mass unemployment, and increase in crime and so on and so forth.

That's why it's not as easy as just saying, nobody go outside.

30-35(c) is the temp at which they reckon the virus gets killed

summer weather in central-southern spain will stop the infections there
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Please post a link to a credible source, because from what I can find, the virus will not be killed by warm weather, its a fable.

Funny, the summer heat hasn't prevented deaths in the Phllipines, Indonesia, Hong Kong, Australia, Thailand, Japan.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yeah, its bolloks to say that warm weather will save us
----------------------------------------------------------------------
None of those countries have been in summer since the virus aside of Australia...

Well done for picking a load of northern hemisphere countries
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I didnt pick those countries, and warm weather doesnt kill the virus.

A lot of viruses struggle to thrive in warmer temperatures, but as this is a new virus, no one has a clue wether or not that this will be the case

I don't disagree; it's Catch 22, it really is. I'm just pointing out that going off in their own direction leaves them more open to blame if it doesn't work.

Unless the UK is going to lockdown whole cities, which it isn’t, you can’t really compare our situation to China.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

But most probably it will. The severe cases in Europe are in lockdown. Italy have already seen a decrease in certain regions, it’s working. People need to get a bloody grip.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Don, absolutely. A lot are living in a dream world, if they think, eventually we don`t go down the China route, and lock down everything. It is definitely coming. This is going to affect the whole world for a very, very long time.

35 people dead now. Looks like the number of dead is doubling day on day. Not good.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
That's OK then. At that rate, we will all be dead in 3 weeks so no need for any precautions.

The irony

Having spent the last three years insulting the remain voting young of this country, the 'snowflakes', the 'millennials' and the 'woke', it now looks like the angry OAPs responsible for brexit are going to need all those young people to save their lives, by not attending large gatherings and by self isolating, even though the virus is not likely to be as fatal to them, as it will for the elderly...Unfortunately, those angry OAPs helped create a culture of selfishness in this country, something which began under Thatcher and has continued unchecked ever since, encouraged by those who couldnt give a damn about anyone else and continued voting tory because it suited their wallets to do so...Well, it really sucks to be you now...with your very life so dependant on an entire generation you have insulted, patronised and ultimately condemned to the scrapheap with your xenophobic politics....And look what you voted in...a government happy to see you culled in order to achieve herd immunity!!!

Gini,
Not sure if your response is sarcastic or if you are just hysterical by nature. However, if you are correct then please pass your insight on to the FA so that that they do not have to worry about what to do with the current season, there won't be anyone around.

Here's an idea I've heard floating around.........
Where do all these damned viruses come from in the first place?
They come out of China ... Right? Every one of them, Sars, Mers, Corona ... and the next one....right?

The Chinese eat up all the animals too ... No Elephants, No tigers, no Snow Leopards ..no ....nuthin!
eventually an empty planet.

Why not blast those Buggas off the face of the planet?
Lets go to war with China and Nuke 'em!
1.4 Billion less humans might make a difference....especially when they're all Chinese ...

Just a thought for a Sunday morning when your churches are all closed down too!
