I don't think Johnson has done a very good job and has been forced in to many of his measures by circumstances. For example the mixed message of don't go to pubs and restaurants but not closing them. What was that policy about other than a fudge. He dithered about his herd immunity idea even though he had the experience of what was happening in Italy as a model and his government screwed up the purchase of ventilators and ppe. I am certain most people would have shown better leadership than Boris Johnson who after all only wants the job and title, not the responsibility.

Whether Johnson has done well or badly will only be known in retrospect because there are still many unknowns. IF it is the case that nearly all of us will get it at some point then the protective measures are only important in trying to ensure that services are not overwhelmed at any one time. Other than that we may as well crack on and catch it and then try to get back to normal more quickly. It's not clear how realistic it is to try to prevent large numbers from never being infected AT ALL. Probably the virus will remain floating around for over a year until a vaccine comes along that only MIGHT be effective, so it may well be the case that the 1.5 million currently being asked to hibernate will still be infected later on, just spread out over months rather than weeks. It just isn't possible to know for sure. We will have to see if China and South Korea start getting future increases when they relax. Still we have yet to find out what proportion of a population anywhere in the world has had asymptomatic infection and only then will we know if the concept of herd immunity is a valid one for this virus.

It seems logical to me, facing very limited care resources (nationally) to delay general infections as much as possible to optimise the size of the care resource by dealing their decimation by the virus as well as minimising and delaying the number of patients they have to deal with. Unfortunately it is not possible (amidst all this government waffle and finger pointing) to be clear what we are supposed to do. Being almost powerless the only thing is to avid getting infected for as long as possible. Keep oneself to oneself but help others where one can. And wash our hands until we are sick of washing them - yet wash them again and again and again....

Reading about Brits stuck in India without food or water or hope of getting back soon. France organised special buses to the airport and flights home for French citizens. Brits get no help whatsoever. Same with the cruise passengers stuck in Panama. The FCO still wont issue outright bans to visiting places so you wont be able to claim on insurance for not going. The FCO is a joke for most people.

For me, I think one of the problems and it's happening in the Sates as well as the UK is that there are way too many business not being closed down. Look at Sportsdirect, how the hell are they deemed an essential business, they need to be closed, it sends mixed messages. Until they enforce a lockdown the virus will continue to spread.

Thanks for the update Scouse, I appreciate that. I think the media have a lot to answer for too, I was reading an article a weeks ago and headline was 21 yr old soccer coach dies from Coronavirus. Read what had happened as I thought bloody hell and it turned out he had leukemia. Not saying he would have died the same day but the media have whipped it up at every turn. Although there is plenty be of advice as to who and when you should go to hospital, the fear factor will ensure that more folk than necessary will go and overwhelm the hospitals.

The FCO has at last relented and is bringing back British people stuck in foreign parts. Some were in real distress.

Read that the German government had offered up 40 seats to Britons on a repatriation flight from somewhere?

If this season can't be completed someone at work has suggested the idea of teams carrying over their current points tally into the start of the new campaign. There would then be at least some advantage for those teams who are at the top at the moment. Putting club allegiances to one side, would this be fair or would it be better to start with a completely new slate?

posted on 31/3/20

Seems like a suggestion that fans of clubs near the top would be happy with and fans of clubs near the bottom wouldn't. There is no fair way sorting this out other than playing the remaining games and that isn't going to happen.

Teams near the top would rather complete the season any old how. Playing the games might still happen but it wouldn't be fair either since the disruption will affect some clubs more than others with regard to players ending contracts, loans expiring etc. Probably also the only way it would happen would be behind closed doors with fixtures squeezed close together, an artificial contrivance rather than proper competition as we know it. Which is the least bad thing to do?

Meanwhile we have around 1000 staff off at the moment in a workforce of around 6000. Very few are doctors as it happens although there are one or two starting to go off. There is an approximate inverse relationship between the degree of staff contact with patients and their likelihood to self-isolate. There are developing signs of hysteria in some staff which is being fanned by media stories about health workers.

Just jumping to a conclusion based on the fact that no clubs appear to be making any noises about playing the remaining games. Even clubs like Liverpool and Leeds haven't suggested it and it is surely in their interest to do so.

Good article, but it’s lazy journalism to stereotype all famous people in this way. Just because you are well-known doesn’t mean you can’t have intelligence, self-awareness and a sense of your own ridiculousness. I’m not a big Twitter follower but there are people like Frankie Boyle who are worth paying attention to.

It's becoming obvious that the season isn't going to restart. Unless the Gov'nt imposes a workable test/trace/isolate policy whenever this lockdown is relaxed, then next season won't happen either!

Will this change football's attitude to footballers wages?

Is this Gov'nt going to get it's act together or is Coronavirus going to decimate or worse the human race?

Will Liverpool FC expect to be awarded the Prem' if the season doesn't complete? They are not alone in having a unassailable lead at the top of their respective league [National League South or North has a clear winner too]

Debby will probably breath a sigh of relief if the season is kiboshed, will that result in a harsher penalty from the EFL, or are you going to manage to play that one too?

There was never a chance of any penalty from the EFL as Derby did nothing wrong. We are disappointed that the season has come to a premature end as we were getting our act together and still had a reasonable chance of making the play offs. We also don't get a chance to give the doggies a good thrashing at Pride Park.

I think we all can agree that Covid-19 has definitely allowed Notts Forest to dodge a bullet come 4th April.

I don't think the season will be finished either.
It's pretty low on the importance scale. It's a bit like celebrity culture as noted in The Guardian article.

It has got me thinking who we have seen the last of in a Rams shirt.

Matt Clarke, his loan deal is up. I would love to get him back but I'm sure Brighton have taken notice of his performances for us.

I'm sure there'll still be a transfer window. Who will leave.

Chris Martin - still no new contract.
Marriott - Doesn't fit the style of play
Bogle - Cash in?

Just some thoughts. Further suggestions welcome.

Rameses, I don't think Clarke is good enough for the premier, so we could get him. I desperately hope we give Chris Martin a new contract, he is my favourite player, he is our best striker and I hope he has the sense to take a bit less money cuz I know he likes Derby.

Shame about Marriott, those goals at Leeds were wonderful. I would sell Bogle for good money.

I agree about Martin. I can't think what the hold up can be on the deal.
His family is settled here. Is it that Cocu wants to free space for others to come in?
But even so Martin is excellent at his role at will only get better over the next two years. His experience and nouse must be worth a decent contract.
