Glad you pulled through. If you get to intensive care then your chances are really poor, must have been very worrying for you and your family.

Hear what you are saying Vidal, but I’ve also heard some different attitudes to the treatment

There is no predicting the outcome if you catch this bug. Generally if you are young and healthy you will pull through but as seen this week it is not always the case. I am not taking any chances with it, especially not being young.

If you are old you will still generally pull through. People need to be as careful as they possibly can but not to be so stressed that it makes them ill. The true mortality of getting this virus is likely to be a fraction of a percent. In Germany mortality is about 0.5% and even there they haven't tested people who have had mild infections or those that might have had it without symptoms. Of those who are admitted to hospital, the great majority recover completely.

Because the numbers who will catch it are huge, then even with a relatively low mortality rate there will be many deaths. If people are doing as they are told and staying home, then the main risk is when you go to the shops. Not from the air you breathe but from what you touch. The fruit and veg that others have fingered, the checkout conveyor belt, those sorts of things. Keep your hands away from your faces and when you get home wash your hands before you put your stuff away, and then again afterwards, and clean the surfaces where you might have put food before you stuck it in the cupboards. Before you cook or handle food, wash your hands. Go out for a bit of exercise and enjoy the sunshine. Don't get massively paranoid about other people having a walk, you don't need to cross the street to avoid them. Say a friendly hello as you pass. Wash your hands again when you get home.

I hope all the footie fans who never wash their hands after their half-time slash change their habits.

Dirty buggers the lot of them.

Vidal, I have just finished writing several thank you cards, to my local doctor, Threetops hospice, the Macmillan nurse and several district nurses for their support over a few months, culminating at Markeaton yesterday afternoon.

I think I've said before that at the Royal Derby the nurses, junior doctors and all the other junior staff are brilliant. My local doctor has been wonderful and even gave us her mobile number. I even went outside and clapped at 8 last night.

I know you are only pulling my leg with your remark, but I think you chaps and chapesses do a good job. My granddaughter is starting at the Manchester Royal next week after helping out at my home, hope she will be ok.

Matt Hancock calling NHS staff "colleagues" is a bit rich too.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm sure there was a motion in the HoC not too long ago, to remove the 1% public sector pay cap for nurses, etc. The Tories voted against it.
