“Is it hypocritical for people who voted Tory to come out and applaud the NHS for their work”? 🤣
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Of course it is. Most definitely. But what did you expect?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I was genuinely looking for erudite rebuttal of my statement or at least an acknowledgement that that perhaps the 10 year denigration if the NHS and the public sector was just a little bit erroneous.

But I guess it’s hard to defend the indefensible

This is worrying, the stats we are receiving are all out of date. https://www.theguardian.com/world/2020/apr/04/why-what-we-think-we-know-about-the-uks-coronavirus-death-toll-is-wrong

No, it’s not necessarily hypocritical. There are lots of reasons why people might vote in a particular way. The NHS isn’t the only issue. Nor can you assume that under any other party the situation would definitely have been better. Blair’s government introduced the target culture which has been very damaging to health care provision so it is at least possible that a different administration would have messed things up.

That said, I don’t have any doubt personally that the relentless paring to the bone of services under the Tories has led to a gradual deterioration in care over the past ten years. Things were gradually approaching crisis point even before this pandemic because of the absence of any slack in any part of the NHS. But I think it’s unfair to brand millions of people as hypocrites. You can have right-wing political leanings but still think that NHS workers deserve a round of applause.

Spart, we are always going to be a bit behind with the stats, as is the case in every country. Apart from the time it takes to record the death there will be vast numbers of patients in hospitals, some of whom we know are going to die in the next few days. The other side of that is that there will be a point when deaths are still statistically rising but where we know that things are improving because fewer patients are being admitted with the virus.

If you don't want Tories to applaud the NHS perhaps you could manage without our taxes.

I suppose you lefties are mourning the departure of your great leader Comrade Corbyn, I certainly am cuz he is the best man for the Tories since Comrade Foot. I'm desperately hoping you are idiotic enough to elect the repulsive Long Bailey, but I think some of your members will put the best candidate of the 3 in. If I was a Labour member I would want Andy Burnham as leader even though the NHS made some deadly mistakes during his leadership.

Perhaps you chaps could read this if you can bring yourselves to read a decent paper.https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2020/04/03/inflexibility-lumbering-nhs-country-has-had-shut/

Other good news, the Daily Mail is newspaper of the year (even Spart reads it!!!) and at 89 Bernie Ecclestone is to become a father, gives hope to all us oldies.

Thank you Vidal for your reports from the front line correcting some of the bile posted on this site. Keep up the good work.

Speaking of bile, the Chinese government has licensed the use of bear bile for the treatment of Coronavirus. It beggars belief. These animals are tortured, their gall bladders punctured while alive to extract their bile. Why would anybody think for a second that this fluid would have any effect on a virus?

VC10, I suggest you read Stephen Jones, In the Blood if you think Rumplestiltskin becoming a father at 89 is a good thing. Best way to produce mutant genes is to have fathers over 50.

The Telegraph, the tax dodging Barclay brothers' mouthpiece has long been running a campaign against the NHS. It even has it's own pet PM in power though fortunately the indolent fantasist has isolated himself. I would suggest he does this for the next 4 and a half years so the nation can recover.

The Chinese have always been a very insular and racist nation. They thought nothing of exporting tea to Europeans containing Prussian blue dye which is extremely toxic as they thought Europeans inferior. They still regard their culture as superior to the barbarians of Europe and the Black people of Africa. Mao tried to spread his political beliefs to Africa but wouldn't let African students mix with Chinese. They regard their medicine as superior to western medicine, bear bile, tiger bones, ginseng and rhino horn can apparently cure anything.

Wow! Desperation, personal attacks are the final act of those defending their beliefs.

And no 'chaps' - it's behind a paywall.

If the Chinese are that stupid to believe that treating Covid 19 with bear bile how about the English who are going around setting fire to 5G phone masts because they believe them responsible for the new Corona virus. I sometimes think evolution is in reverse.

posted on 4/4/20

You can't fix stupid, this whole mess has escalated due to the fact that at the onset, the Chinese tried to cover it up. If they had alerted everyone, a travel ban could have been imposed to stop the spread.

I'm glad I don't live in America Kentucky.
The lack of a national heath system like there is in most European countries means there is no united front to tackle the outbreak. Individual States are taking different approaches and only those who can afford it go to the doctors.
This means the disease will hang around in deprived areas for longer causing multiple flare ups and transmission back into the rest of the population.
There's a price to pay for capitalism and it's always those at the bottom who pay it.
I hope America takes the view that everyone needs access to free healthcare during this crisis otherwise it'll be a long road for the USA.

It will be a long road for everyone until they enforce a proper lockdown instead of a half way approach. If not, we will be living in this "state of limbo" for longer than people realise.

I haven't made any personal attacks on anyone here, have you told Spart off for his rude remarks about our excellent PM? Scouse you are really dragging the gutters if this is the best you can do. To think my granddaughter is going out with an Everton fan. Too thick to get the train and too thick to support Liverpool.

Ramdini, just to be clear, are you saying because I vote Tory I can't applaud and thank the NHS for their care in a very difficult time for me and my family?

Do you think it is ok for me to use the NHS?

I see your new leader is going to work with the government on this Chinese flu. Thank God you lefties have had the sense to choose the best candidate. There's hope for you yet, maybe you can win an election in ten years or so.

posted on 4/4/20

Oh and while I'm at it....my grandson has got Chinese flu, he caught it from a woman sitting next to him on a flight from Geneva where he went Skiing. He lives in Jersey so he won't be troubling the NHS although I think he voted labour in 2017. I've cut the idiot out of my will.

Which excellent PM are you on about VC. The one we have at the moment is a pathological liar, serial adulterer and an indolent incompetent. Show mw some evidence where I am wrong about anything I have said about him.

Yes spart, but about from that he is brilliant...

Actually I wasn't sure about Boris, but I think he is doing well. Can you imagine Corbyn trying to run the country?

posted on 4/4/20

Yes I and I am certain Corbyn or Theresa May or Cameron or the bloke round the corner from me could do a better job. Mainly because they would be driven by what was best for the nation not what was best for Boris Johnson.
