An independent Disciplinary Commission has determined that Southend United are to be given a suspended three point penalty and fined £7,500 for breaches of EFL Regulations
https://www.efl.com/news/2020/june/efl-statement-southend-united/
As mentioned a few pages back their new stadium deal had only just been signed back then what now for them with the council and club both skint due to the virus
It could be just the beginning of the end for them. It would be a sad day if that comes to pass We have lived through months not really knowing what our fate would be. I suspect it's not what any of us would like to go through again. There might be a different outcome.
Later today you should stare at the ceiling with glazed eyes oblivious to anything going on around you.
Yes folks it's another EFL board meeting where you should be as bored as you possibly can don't worry you'll not miss a vote there isn't one.
Think today at The EFL as The Chuckle Brothers meet Monty Python for a save the world planning meeting prior to being joined next week by Mike Reid and a coach load of kids for the Runaround vote.
Next Monday is supposed to be the day of the vote. We will see. It is expected that the league will be abandoned without further games being played with the exception of playoff games.
Our club is just waiting to see if that is the result of the vote so that planning for next season can start. There is a lot to do with limited money to spend. Whether or not it's because of the financial situation, or EFL restrictions imposed, or a combination of both, remains to be seen but the latter option is more than likely the right answer.
Careful there swie next week's scheduled vote is for the the big one by all clubs for changes in regulations and methods to be used in the event leagues vote to play on or abandon.
Then after that which means after the meeting on that day if there's time and the mood is right or sometime days/weeks later each league will vote on it's own clearly knowing what rules will apply no matter which way they vote.
Which Tuesday? or Month or even which year will this curtailment vote be.
With Covid testing ongoing in the Championship and L2 does this one liner from the EFL give you any clues
"There is currently no testing programme underway in League One"
At a secret meeting last night at the Boots and Laces trendy wine bar several EFL board member were overheard talking about clubs going bust and the future possibility of merging the remaining lower leagues 1 & 2 clubs into a new bottom League 1.5 with clubs being asked to submit proposals for their new league name meeting sometime after the 2020 *Carry on Playing vote.
*Carry on Playing is a trademark of the Rank Organisation with the film coming soon to a cinema near you
Now the meeting has been postponed until Tuesday. Could it possibly be put back yet again? I really think that we need a new board at the EFL and then possibly we would get a positive decision.
Would you trust these clowns with running League football in England? It's a pity that the clubs can't abandon the EFL and start again from scratch.
I see the club has issued a short statement to say there are no further charges on the club other than those that were agreed as part and parcel of taking the club out of administration. They also report that all payments made are up to date. That has to be good news.
There's plenty of L1 players on released lists eagerly awaiting a return to playing vote so they may turn out and give their all before being shown the door.
Their manager and chairmen are willing for a end the season now vote after realising they've not got a full team left after publishing their released lists.
There's chaos at the EFL AGM afternoon comfort break
It may look like the scrap the season option is missing it's in there in invisible ink but nobody knows how to make it visible.
The blame is entirely down to Supertramp for the Logical Song which is banned by the EFL
Looking back hindsight I think they call it wouldn't it have been sensible now to have abandoned all leagues at least now we'd be somewhere towards thinking about starting next season and the yellow ticker tape day.
Abandoning the season seems to be the only realistic option. How many weeks training would be needed to get the players up to fitness? That is of course if you have a team to field. We wouldn't be able to field a team.
We then have the task of getting ready for the 2020/2021 season. It doesn't make any sense to carry on with this season.
Well with the R over 1 we won’t be doing much in the North West that’s for sure.
A 2week total lockdown and it would all be over. IMO
but the longer it goes on the more chance we have off staying up,
The Lord works in mysterious ways 😉
Life would have much simpler and cheaper had they erased the 2019-20 season a long time ago.
Has it all been a conspiracy to provide questions for future editions of A Question of Sport.
Behind the scenes there's whispers gathering pace of another change in regulations to allow part time in L2 (I will allow you to insert you thought we were after watching us play)
Golden, I think that you can forget any chance of us staying in league 1. There will not be enough support for that. It's league two for us.
Pasty, part-time players would save money for clubs and if it comes to pass I'm sure that some clubs may opt for that scenario. I just hope that BWFC isn't one of them. I fear that would hamper our prospects of gaining promotion. Part-time players are fine for non-league clubs as is night time training, but for a club with expectations of moving up the leagues, it's a non-starter for me.
A league start is being envisaged by some for the second week in September with others talking about it taking as long as next year.
Of course, it's all speculation so we will need to wait and see. However, I have a feeling that this season will have to be abandoned. As Golden has pointed out, the R rate is above one in the North West of England.
I don't see crowds back in football grounds this year. A restart in September? No money coming in might have to be part time staff. If Bolton stay professional it will mean fv funding the club out of their own pocket. The impression I get is they are skint and looking for investment. The stadium and hotel under normal circumstances would bring money in but in the current climate a millstone as expensive to run. Maybe home games played at Leyland or some northwest clubs get together and ground share to and cut costs. Ie rochdale, Oldham, bolton could play at boundary park. Also ifollow would you pay a tenner a game or not bother?
Notice how it's only League 1 that's kicking it's heels now.
The whole League 1 season has been 1 massive clown show from the start and should be fired into a skip.
Anyone who bangs on about the integrity of the league in this division should take themselves off for a chat with the wall.
There's plenty of time for the big vote to fall apart when all league clubs get to vote.
They've have had too much time to think and consider what's not covered should this early ending happen again under different circumstances.
They're out canvassing again today ahead of votes 1 & 2
With talk of a second wave will you be considering changing your vote for a plan which enables you to stretch the pennies into next year.
Talking of money there's no news yet on a salary / wage cap to help out the prospect for a vote on that are a long way off.
So, are we still geared up for Tuesday? My feeling is that we have to get on with it and a vote will indeed be held. What the result of the vote will be, is up in the air.
I still think the season will be abandoned as there is no safe or fair way to carry on. I do envisage that we will be relegated as part and parcel of the proceedings.
What are your thoughts on what will happen? I'm sure that there will be others who will have a different point of view, it would be good to hear your thoughts on what will happen..
I'm in the it should all have been scrapped a long time ago camp.
There could be a twist or turn in the voting but both the regulation change and finishing the season now should be the winners.
The fun and pear shaping will commence shortly after with disgruntled clubs moaning while others start to chirp up about the consequences of a delayed start to next season and lack of income due to fans being shut out. Somebody will one day say " hang on the salary and spending caps should have been done before the transfer window not after it"
Who will be the first to go under it could be a surprise.
Meeting number 3 What do you mean you've not heard of it.
It's Wednesday and a tough one as the lower leagues try and work out how much to give back to that big TV company in the Sky. Makes you question that advance hand out made earlier in the panic maybe confirmation of the spending limit voting will follow that.
There's not a lot to say except bring on Thursday when we may be able to discuss what the ramifications of the votes mean for our club. Relegation for sure but what else?
We need a list of things the EFL will want meetings on before they put recommendations to the leagues.
- Spending limits
- Squad sizes
- Number of loans
- Sky rebate
- Start date for 2020/21 season
- Cups
- Crowds
- Official away travel
- Special administration punishments where admin is a direct result of the effect of the virus
Feel free to add to the list like how about letting the Championship break away
I see Sky and NowTV are banging out special offers in an attempt to entice you to watch the Premier League.
Don't fall for it save your money and spend it a season ticket, iFollow or in the club shop
