'just to put things in perspective, Italy started on quarantine redzones after the discovery of patient 12, and the death of the 2nd victim. The UK still have not implemented quarantine, and are now at patient 2,600 with 103 deaths.'
----------------------------------------------------------------------
103 deaths - 103 and underlying health issues at play also

Get some bloody perspective for God’s sake - it’s Brexit all over again with the scaremongering and fear merchants lapping it up

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Exactly. 99% of the italian deaths have had underlying health issues or age as a factor. Also italian has been hit hard because they have a significantly older population.

I don't know what is wrong with the Uk people. In Spain we have been in lockdown for nearly a week and while there was some initial panic buying the shops have been mostly full, and no one fighting for food or water.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
You're alright jack? no relatives with illnesses? aged neighbours? etc

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yeah, these deaths don't really count as they were old or ill anyway.

Seriously, some people.

I don’t know anyone with the virus or of anyone who knows anyone with the virus....it’s precisely my point - it’s just over-hyped hysteria

How many people on this forum actually knows anyone who knows anyone with the virus....possibly no-one - we’re talking such low figures in whole scheme of things it’s ridiculous

We're living in unprecedented times, and this guy thinks people on minimum wage should be taking charge?

Okay

Why would people on minimum wage make those decisions?

He seems keener to blame shelf-stackers rather than those really at fault.

Erm

I do.

I try not to over analyse it but had all the symptoms myself a few weeks ago. Probably nothing remotely connected to it but nonetheless I'm in absolute rude health now.

I have 4 staff with all the signs and one very senior member of staff in intensive care. Signs are encouraging and that she will pull through thankfully.

Yes we all have people we care about in the at risk category and I'm not saying we shouldn't put measures in place to protect them. But it does not justify the reaction and behaviour of people like we are going to turn into some sort of dystopian walking dead civilisation. A large majority of those at risk people are likely to die each year from old age and other diseases so there is going to be a huge overlap with those people and those likely to die from Corvid-19. A bit of perspective is necessary to keep behaviour in check and not put others that aren't at risk from the virus, at risk because of access to food and baby formula.

Talking of Spain

Supposed to have been heading on a stag do next Saturday to one of those hedonistic islands.

Booked up with Ryanair. Now we all know it can't happen as everything is shut down and government advice is not to travel.

I'll take a stab in the dark and suggest even Ryanair know this.

So have they cancelled the flights with an option for refund or to rebook? Have they bollox.

Instead you know full well they want you (me) to cancel so they don't have to pay out.

Utter rseholes.

Even Jet 2 have cancelled flights mid June and are sorting out refunds or rebookings.

Cants left me stranded in the U.K. (in Manchester of all places) during the crazy snow a couple of years back.
Cancelled my flight and rebooked with Aer Lingus. That flight was then cancelled.
They put me up in a hotel for 2 nights and gave me vouchers for meals. Wasn’t too bothered as at the time had my company credit card anyway.
Just shows the difference between some airlines

It is not just elderly though our local tesco opened early for the oap to have first dibs. By the time it went to the rest of the local population most if not all essentials like paracetamols was out of stock.

I am not sure what they can do. Real pain for everyone.

posted on 19/3/20

Typically I never do a huge shop because I am so close to two supermarkets (both of which are open till 10pm except Sunday) and have a local garage that has a 24hr Nisa that I really don’t buy stuff with next week in mind.

Went to the supermarket today and I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. It was 10am, the car park was absolutely full, the trolly bays were empty and inside the store people we wandering and just filling their trollies with all sorts of stuff.

Some were using two trollies.

Canned section was emptied, cereals aisle empty, tissue aisle empty, milk almost all gone, freezer section almost all gone.

Only went to get some milk, porridge and potatoes.

Now I do believe that the stocks will get back to normal once the hysteria has died down. But in the interim I do think that they should lock up all the trollies except if you’re unable to use a basket.

That way people will truly only buy that which they can fit in a basket ie what they really need for that day and the next.

Government are totally at fault for not clamping down hard now. In times of crisis, they have to take control. They have to bring in strict rationing, and not just leave it to individual supermarkets. Strict rationioning means just like one or two items of anything once a week to every household. Each household has one book of rationed items, and when they go into a supermarket, the particularly item gets swiped, and it that is it for the week.

As it is the same people may only be allowed two or three things everytime they enter a supermarket, but they are going in multiple times in all probability. Pointless exercise by the supermarkets if several members of the same family are all going in together and say all taking two or three packs of toilet roll each. Wouldn`t take long to strip shelves.

Governments can't just swan in and take control of supermarkets or any other business because fat greedy bastirts are emptying the shelves for goodness sake.

The supermarkets have control and should have seen what was happening and reacted of their own accord. They are happy to take the record profits ffs so they should be planning their business accordingly. Shareholders and senior management have a legal responsibility to do so, particularly if people are being assaulted on their premises.

What would you have the government do? Send in the police when they are sorely needed elsewhere. The army ffs?

Ridiculous to blame the government for this.

And not to put too fine a point on it but nobody is starving as a result of other fat fwckers are they?
