Its not a far stretch to imagine that a global pandemic leading to the deaths of 10s of 1000s could cause some footballers to stop kicking the ball.

I don't see this league being finished, just don't see it happening.

No, which is what happened. It is a far stretch however to imagine that they would just cancel a league season and start a new one, with 9 games left to play.

I wouldn't say so. Id call it prioritising. But im not a government.

Probably won’t have a 20/21 season as this won’t be completed for a good while yet

posted on 19/3/20

I think cancelling it is the absolute last thing they would do but it could still happen. Not that I want it to and Liverpool are deservedly champions.

Why would it be priority to start a new league when the current one is 9 games from completion? Obviously the priority would be to complete the current one, since it's the current one, which is what is happening.

I still think we are looking at September/October before the season restarts. Players will need to do another preseason training after this long break. New transfer window too.

These fixtures will be completed early December and mid December new season starts. How the Euros fit in will need to be discussed.

The league won`t be finished, deal with it. Even if they wanted to play behind closed doors, they aint going to be diverting ambulance services and medical people to look after pampered footballers kicking a ball about. The Government won`t allow it.

Of course it will be finished, they have said it will. I'm not sure why anybody thought it wouldn't.

"The FA, Premier League, EFL and women's professional game, together with the PFA [Professional Footballers' Assocation] and LMA [League Managers Association], understand we are in unprecedented times and our thoughts are with everyone affected by COVID-19.

"We're united in our commitment to finding ways of resuming the 2019-20 football season and ensuring all domestic and European club league and cup matches are played as soon as it is safe and possible to do so.

"We've collectively supported UEFA in postponing Euro 2020 to create space in the calendar to ensure domestic and European club league and cup matches have an increased opportunity to be played and, in doing so, maintain the integrity of each competition.

"The FA's Rules and Regulations state that 'the season shall terminate not later than June 1' and 'each competition shall, within the limit laid down by the FA, determine the length of its own playing season'.

"However, our board has agreed for this limit to be extended indefinitely for the 2019-20 season in relation to professional football. Additionally, we've collectively agreed that the professional game in England will be further postponed until no earlier than Thursday April 30."

Behind closed doors, with private medical assistance, it'll go ahead I'm sure.

I can see the cups being streamlined to one tie per round or cancelled but the league is the main focus, as it's the backbone of football.

Seriously?!? As if people don't know this already. It's a football forum and no one is saying it's the most important thing right now.

Do you think football behind closed doors will contribute to the outbreak? Clubs and the league wouldn't even discuss it if that was the case.

No-one has any idea what will happen as we can't say when this mess will be over with. To claim otherwise is silly.

Personally, I think given that finishing this season will likely have a big impact on the next they should just call it now and let teams plan for starting afresh in the autumn.

I get the money argument, and I suspect that is the reason they 'have' to finish it above any illusion of 'fairness'.

oh now you're banging this drum? but it was ok to wish CV19 would come and deny Liverpool the title, because it'd be funny right?

That was the mindset of a lot of wums like yourself morespunk.
