A fair solution?

People need to forget about starting a new season.
You can't possibly start a new one, till you've finished the current one, however long that takes.

Yes you can, just cancel the whole season across the board, that way EVERYONE gets the same treatment - that’s the easiest and most straight forward solution.

People will just have to accept that this crisis was unprecedented and that people’s welfare takes priority over football 👍🏼

Combine this season and next season into one mega season, the 19-21 season. Restart with current point totals. Season lasts until the end of next may (However many games that ends up being.

Make it a 29 game season so the teams (Villa in particular) play there game in hand. If they win they survive and if they lost back to the championship. That is basically 2 games which can be done one evening and the season will be done.

Champions
CL
Europa
Relegation

FA cup abandoned
European competitions abandoned

New season starts September/October

A June - August restart makes completing this season and having a full 20/21 season very viable - allbeit with a slight schedule change.
All fits in with Qatar 22 anyway.

The easiest thing, in this scenario, would be to cancel the Nations League and limit international breaks to just Euro20 preps at the end of the season.

Give us a 22 point lead as that is what it will be should city win their game in hand

Morning Irish.

Hope you are well in the land of green.

I think even with a 22 point lead it would still be hard to claw back in that scenario.

My local one is still open although I am pretty much staying home and working from there.

I am keeping exertions outside to necessity. I will need to get some more beer in soon though.

Looking like non-league is just going to cancel the season. It is, of course, a very different environment down there.
Devastating for the likes of Barrow and Harrogate Town.
Could kill off a few clubs as well.

Yes same here I only head out to shop or maybe to bring little Irish to the park.
I have adequate Guinness supplies in the shed.

The rest of the football league will follow suit in due course

The season will be cancelled across the board 👍🏼

The key word is ‘fair’

Is it fair to disregard a season that is 75% complete at the expense of one that hasn’t commenced?

That sounds unfair to me.

The easiest solution is to finish the season and delay the start of the next. You support that by having a light pre-season, no meaningless England friendlies and perhaps no league cup.

My dog is getting walked to death at the moment. He doesn’t get excited when I pick up his lead anymore.

I have a pair of teenagers back home because their colleges are shut. One of them in self isolation in his room.

The Mrs and I have probably watched fifteen seasons of Silent Witness in the last two weeks.

Timescale may look something like this (if June 1st is a realistic get back to normal date)

June 1st to July 1st - Pre season

July 1st to August 15th - Season @ games twice a week

August 15th - September 1st - Play offs and finals

September 1st - October 1st - Pre season for next season and fixtures to be set up

October 1st - New season

Sound reasonable? And that’s IF players can start training again on June 1st

no meaningless England friendlies
====
There are no friendlies in the 20-21 season. Plus other continents have qualifiers to play. So you could cancel the Nations League, but the likes of Mane, Salah and Firmino would still have international football to play.

Already happens with African and Asian players during the season that they have international commitments so no real issue there.

Not 6 or 7 times a season for 2 weeks. That would be an extra 14 games missed plus the African Nations in January 2021.

Never been a fan of Guinness from a can. There’s just something missing from it. Can’t wait to have a proper pint again.

Resume the league (no "preseason for this) and play every 3 days. Season would finish in a month, or a month and a half for those lower down the table. Then only the remaining European games, play offs and cup competition if possible .Drop the cup competitions if not.

A month break between the end of that and the new season. Drop the League Cup for the season or the PL (maybe even the Championship sides) teams play their reserves (U23s) in it. European qualifying rounds limited to one game at neutral ground - i.e Sheff United need to qualify for EL, they drawn out first against some Swiss team, game is played in England but not at Bramall Lane.

You would need a pre season to get the players up and running

They’ve probably never had as big a break from football than they’re having now. Injuries galore if we just start playing straight away
