Andrew Marr on the BBC states that its ok to go out with your family (unless you are from London) just keep 2 yards away from each other.

Is this part of Lockdown too?

The Tories are doing whatever they can to save their own assses, as usual. They are not telling us everything, just drip feeding us bits, day by day, so that they cannot be held to account.

When it is all over, they will distance themselves completely from anything they should have done earlier, then get on with trashing low paid workers again, the very people that are helping us through this crisis.

After months and months of telling us cleaners, low paid workers are worthless, they are now the very ones we are all relying on.

The Tories really are shameless, and will do whatever it takes to stay in power.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The herd immunity thing is one of the most ridiculous things I've ever heard. It was basically a front to keep businesses running as normal for as long as possible.

For one thing, how could you possibly implement such a strategy before a vaccine existed? You couldn't possibly protect the elderly and vulnerable.

Even if you accept Boris doesn't really give a shoot about the elderly and vulnerable, then herd immunity still direct make sense. So it's better for us all to get it in phases? If that's the case, then why allow people to come and go as they please for so long. That was always going to lead to the overwhelming of the health sector we will see in the next week or two.

He's so incompetent and flawed, that he managed to catch the disease himself!!!
----------------------------------------------------------------------

He’s following the scientific advice so essentially you are suggesting they are incompetent and flawed.

Really?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
He's following the scientific advice he chooses to follow. Nobody is in overall agreement in this. It's certainly not the scientific advice other leaders and countries have taken. And even he hasn't spoken about the ludicrous herd immunity in weeks, such was the absolute boll licks I was.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

The scientists he has at his disposal are the best our country has to offer. What else is he to follow?

And yes he was foolish to state herd immunity so early on but eventually that’s where we will be.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The assumption you're (wrongly) making is that all the best scientists we have came to the same conclusions. In reality, he chose to listen to those who told him what he wanted to hear. The results of which we are yet to fully see
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Firstly you have no idea if my assumption is wrong or not. You can’t possibly have.

And how on earth would you know the basis of the PM’s actions? You can’t possibly know this. You think he just had some wild theory and went with the advice that was nearest to it?

Really?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
That's absolutely what I think. To think that all the best scientists we have came to a conclusion so far removed than the best scientists in every other country is insane. It just is. Use your head. He listened to what he wanted the hear.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

So how do you explain Sweden’s approach for example? Very lax compared to most of the others.

And other than timing (which will be up for scrutiny later) what is he doing that other countries aren’t, or vice versa?

Boris has already ruled out extending the transition period. Which would be economic suicide.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

How will it?

You have some crystal ball that shows the EU will pull together and not look after their own national interest set a first.

Or how they will prop up Italy, Spain etc. I can assume that large tourist dependant areas in Europnewill boom once this is over?
----------------------------------------------------------------------

The EU will be all but defunct after all this I’d imagine.

How can they possibly go back to this so called unity when practically every member country has battened down the hatches and undertaken measures to solely protect their own borders and citizens and then start to reimplement their rules?

Each country will have to pay its own bill and recoup the money from its own population. The notion that on top of this they will continue to fund the EU project whilst they suffer will be way down the agenda and their leadership in all of this is up for serious question.

The infrequent noises coming from Brussels are solely those of job protection. Nothing more.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

If the EU goes down, then it will be 10 times worse for the UK. When it is all over, countries will have to come together to repair the damage. Britain wants to isolate itself, and will pay a very heavy price.

Watching Andrew Marr.

Lockdown until June.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Wrong

Wrong

Wrong

Yet again.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Sorry who’s wrong? The epidemiologist and pandemic expert, or you?
----------------------------------------------------------------------

You

There is no lockdown until June

There may yet be depending upon people’s behaviour and what we learn in between but there is no lockdown until June.

Quite simply and yet again you are wrong.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

You would have to be completely stupid to think that this is all going to be over before June. In all probability it will go on for the rest of the year in one form or another, maybe even longer.

You don`t think they would be putting in place these field hospitals, given out untold amounts of money to keep the economy afloat, if this was a going to be a short term couple of months thingy.

The Tories have basically trashed their whole economic plan of the past 10 years, in the space of two weeks.

Believe me this is serious.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I’ll take you seriously the very second you can point out anywhere that I thought it was going to be all over before June or that I didn’t think it was serious.

Until then I won’t.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

They stand up and talk to us practically every evening so yes I believe he is. Why on earth wouldn’t he?

Nobody on this planet knows how this will pan out. Every country is different so we are going to be subjected to all sorts of theories, graphs, projections and outright guesses, some of which are based more on other diseases and viruses and some far more radical.

The point being nobody knows for certain so the question as to who was correct and who was incorrect won’t be known for some time. All anyone can do is listen to the advice and go with weight and opinion but at the end of it all there’s still an element of guess albeit supported by basic principles such as cleanliness, distancing etc.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
You believe him baesd on that? Not really a convincing argument.

How can I believe him? Not when we fell in line with what scientists around the world were saying anyway. Especially not when everyone else asked how our government came to that decision and what science it was based on and we didn't present it. Then to back track due to "new" and data that more or less fell in line with what others were already saying.

I wonder how the people against the lockdown would argue if their grandparent, pregnant sister, son, or best friend, etc would die of this virus, when it could have been prevented. You'd be calling for Boris' head for not acting sooner.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Probably in the same manner anyone who lost someone they loved before their time would feel.

Why don’t we put more into funding cures for cancer and leave it to private companies who decide which products to make to make them more profitable?

Why did that ambulance not arrive in time?

Why wasn’t their a duty doctor on?

Why did that maniac drive while drunk or too fast?

Using emotive language to castigate anyone for something we are still to understand is ridiculous.

I’ll be just as upset at losing anyone for any given reason. This will be no different.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
So you are comparing things you cannot control with something you can control.

Absolute dreamland tosh

The French, German and Spanish citizens will not sit back and watch their tax euros slope off anywhere other than to look after their own damaged country and economy.

Plus the fact they won’t have the U.K. money either. If anything after this some serious questions will be asked about the EU leadership or lack thereof.

This was the right time for them all to pull together and have a joined up approach and common resourcing of great minds. They failed miserably as self interest took over. Not that I blame these countries one little bit. They had to act while the EU dithered.

Eh?

How on earth do you make that quantum leap?

The question I was asked was how would I feel to lose a loved one to this disease as some sort of barb that I would somehow change my mind.

I answered it quite simply. Nothing to do with how we die being controllable or not, which as such I’m not anyway.

You can't just guess how long this will last, it makes no sense. All you can do is listen to the figures and the advice really.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Exactly.

Day by day this thing changes and we can only respond to what we learn.

What we do know is to expect a significant spike in deaths. Only after that will we learn and eventually through nationally available testing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yes day by day things change.

For the worse.

Really?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Was he though? If he was, why did all others around the world asked to see it? And then why did they backtrack?

----------------------------------------------------------------------

As I’ve said I’ll reserve judgement until after we are through this or have it under control at the least.

The timing of action will be what I’ll question the most.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It’s the governments criminally negligent responsible that will be questioned the most, and rightly so.
