In terms of a player Ronaldo would be top but he wasnt a striker in the prem, probably take him out move everyone up one and have Torres or Cantona 10. Dont count Bergkamp as a striker but hes one of prems best every players. Kane I dont think should be there but you see how many goals he scored.
Sandy harping on about there being a time before the prem again? Of course there was ffs but this is the agenda for the article nothing wrong with that is there cmon hes not saying best 10 strikers to play in english football or anything..

Agreed. Love sandy, but players of his era I don’t know about so couldn’t careless if I’m going to be honest I can’t make a proper judgment and neither can probably 90% of people on Ja606. The prem era is where you can judge as most of us have grown up watching football during the Prem era.
It is impossible to judge the different era’s.
Firstly the game in the 50’s, 60’s & 70’s tended to be -laced on less than perfect pitches, which were used for first team, reserves and even youth games several times a week. The training was less advanced too, overall it was far less professional than it currently in my opinion.
Secondly it had little money to spend on players, most clubs were owned by local businessmen who knew little about the game or in some cases business itself.
It is impossible to compare Greaves, Law, Best, Marsh, Osgood, White, Hoddle, Gascoigne with current players because the changes in training, equipment, medical science and of course the standard of pitches now in use.
Greaves & Best used to play incredible football considering the conditions they played under. It might surprise some to know that players like them were very quick over 10-15 yards and probably as quick as some these days. However where they were really great was in thinking ahead and anticipation, they were in some cases a couple of seconds ahead in their movement which was enough for them.
That is why all the greats were great, they were those few seconds ahead in their movement and thought process. Maradona, Cruyff, Henry, Shearer, Gascoigne, Hoddle, Van Nistelrooy, Rush, Fowler, they all had that instinct in their dna.
Those of you who never saw Bestie beating 5-6 players and laying on a goal or scoring himself have missed one of the great sights in football.
The other differences in the pre Premier era were that wingers actually patrolled the wing, beat defenders and crossed the ball. Football was more direct and had in most games less than half the passes you have now.
In 30-40 years, which some us will not be around for, there will be those who are around and lamenting that today’s players like Salah, Kane & Aguero were better than the players then.
It’s a funny old game!😳
I accept you get some enigmas like greeves and Romario that were known as bad trainers, but without undermining their ability, the pace of today's game would be way to much for jimmy. Exceptional player for his time though.

Greaves was great for the time he played but the guy spent more time washing his car than training lol
To say he was better is madness. The game isn't comparable at all. It's not unreasonable to question whether most of them players from an older age would even be able to get fit enough to play at today's pace, if they were around now.
Greaves attitude to training wouldnt even get him in a league one team nowadays. Was a totally different game then tbh

I`m not saying he was better, his goals tally said he was better. End of argument.
Only Shearer of the modern game come anywhere near him, and he finished 74 goals behind, after playing three seasons longer.

Don, I think you do Vardy a disservice. He's got 99 PL goals in just over 200 appearances, has the record for most consecutive goals scored, and consistently scores against top 6 sides, and he only plays for Leicester.
Vardy will go down as one of the league's more underrated goalscorers IMO.

You are not at all bitter about him joining Man Utd are you

Errr no. Not everyone is like you Billy.
Fowler
Rush
Torres
Suarez
Salah
I could throw in Hunt as he's our highest ever league scorer but he was before my time.
Owen just wasn't that entertaining to watch and is dull as dish water to boot. Top out and out striker in his pomp and lethal in the box though.

I don't know if I would either, if I did then he'd be low down the list. Although his career still isn't over yet. The fact that he's 33 and still banging them in is also to his credit though. Strikers like Drogba, Rooney, Owen etc. were over by that age.

I agree and fair play he’s won the title to, which is more than we can say for our bunch of losers at Spurs, but Harry Kane is still better than Vardy if we are comparing strikers.
Id have quite liked to have seen them both together for England for a sustained period.
Ronaldo doesn't even remotely qualify for this list. He had one outrageously good season, but scored not much better than 1 in 3 because he wasn't a striker at United, he was a winger. His best years were outside the Premiership.
I can only see arguments in favour of Shearer and Henry being top.

To be fair I said “top 10 prem strikers of all time” so effectively I mean in general and not just judging by their premier league campaigns. I’m talking as in top strikers to grace the premier league and Ronaldo tops that list:
Aguero is my No.1 Premier League Striker
But if I could have played football like anyone, it would be Henry, just magical to watch.
In terms purely of goalscorers I think it'll be between Shearer, Henry, Kane and Aguero as the best. Kane will ultimately reach their amount of goals before long and be in the reckoning. Between them all they all have the goalscoring consistency and longevity, whereas the rest don't really tick both boxes.

Well said Don, It is the one thing I really detest, is where the modern generation of supporters just dismissing anything that went before as being inferior. It wasn`t.
Some of the modern goalies for a start, need to take a lesson in how to be a goalie from some of the oldies. I have never seen so many basic errors from goalies as in the modern age.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
We can say the same for you Sandy mate. You seem to think anything in you’re era is miles superior to today’s game. So it’s exactly the same thing mate. I personally think Messi and Ronaldo are 2 of the greatest footballers to ever exist and I don’t think many people can disagree wether you are a modern football fan or not.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I have never said at all that anything was better or worse in previous eras. I am merely asking supporters to respect previous eras. They gave pleasure to millions of supporters for generations. So just dismissing those eras and saying they were rubbish is totally and utterly wrong.

Personally I would have Vardy over Owen and Fowler.

Oh ffs see, you bloody love Vardy

Don, I think you do Vardy a disservice. He's got 99 PL goals in just over 200 appearances, has the record for most consecutive goals scored, and consistently scores against top 6 sides, and he only plays for Leicester.
Vardy will go down as one of the league's more underrated goalscorers IMO.

Can't agree with Owen being above Fowler or even Suarez. In fact he'd struggle to make my top five Liverpool strikers tbh.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
You are not at all bitter about him joining Man Utd are you
------------------------------------------

Don’t like him mate and hate Leicester as well the bas***!!! Can recognise he’s a decent strike, but that’s all he is “decent”. I wouldn’t class Vardy as one of the top 10 prem strikers of all time, not a chance mate.
