I miss go outside, being retired I could and did, go out whenever I felt like it. I miss the grandchildren.
But I would not like to think I was endangering them, or any one else. And it's only 13 weeks ffs, and in your own home.

The reason lockdown is enforced is to primarily stop the health system get inundated. It is possible before 12 weeks if these temporary hospitals up and down the country actually work that we reach a point of balance between having a health system to cope with the illness and being able to get out of ‘lockdown’ to actually have a viable economy and protect the other health and social problems a lockdown otherwise brings.

And yes, many people would take a sweet with 1/100 chance of killing you. Weird analogy still.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Depends on the sweet tbh. If it's a blackjack then no thanks. A Fruit Salad? Worth the risk.

Also, wait until the weather becomes sunny. Who wants to be stuck indoors in summer?
----------------------------------------------------------------------

It’s just not workable. People will have to be forced practically at gunpoint to stay in.

And when anyone is killed because they refuse to accept it where then?

Purely on an economic and a psychological basis a lockdown for the next 3 months is unworkable. And unnecessary as it stands right now.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

You dont think being locked down is necessary? You keep going on about the economy but china, the world's largest has been locked down 2 months. They're just coming through that and for one reason only, they were locked down. Stop putting the economy before lives.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

And waken up. The economy the world over dictates life in every aspect. To try and adopt some kind of moral platform to suggest it doesn’t and nobody should consider it is absurdly naive in the extreme.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

The naivity is yours I'm afraid. It has nothing to do with moral platforms of any kind. If in June the situation is similar to how it is now, nothing will change. Of course things may be very different and we may be in a position to start to move things forward again. The country and economy can survive well into the year as we are though so this June scenario is completely wrong.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Please in your own time and words explain how I’m being naive by pointing out the very obvious connection between an economy v life balance.

I’ll wait.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I'm not questioning that. ObviouslyMy point is specifically around this June date that you claim will topple civilisation if we are still under lockdown. Which is nonsense.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Except I’m not claiming that at all.

I’m saying (I thought clearly) that an extension to June would cause many further problems such as social unrest and far more people flaunting the rules. I’m also saying it will do significant damage to our economy as many businesses are planning to be trading before then. That is a fact. I know many of them.

In turn all of them have said they won’t survive without income if this current situation goes on until June. They will fold. They are all in the supply of and installation of building materials. Maybe I’m only seeing part of it but it’s not a huge leap to suggest leisure and travel industries won’t go the same way along with all the other companies that support it.

Next who are one of the healthiest retailers around have already said they can’t last for more than a few months.

Businesses will just run out of cash. I know you know this.

And if they announce June as the earliest the thought process means business leaders will then plan for September and see the situation worsen. It’ll have a domino affect.

Does anyone remember the last global recession that led to austerity and took many years to rebuild?

Who looks after the older and less able when less money is around and tax incomes drop off? Who pays for that?

----------------------------------------------------------------------

I genuinely don’t believe I said anything was unnecessary at all. Can you show me where I said that?

I said I didn’t think it was sustainable. But if I did say that then I was wrong as I as much as anyone doesn’t know how all this will end up or how long it will take.

And just for clarity of course we can survive until June but we will see many more business closures and far more redundancies as a result.

Wide spread illness and panic aside am I the only one that is kind of enjoying this?

Tbf I'm still getting paid but yeah, not minding at all these past two weeks and reckon I have another four in me before I get twitchy.

I am absolutely loving yoga btw. Should've started it years ago and it's done wonders for my creamy hamstrings already.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I wouldn't use the word "enjoying", but I'm certainly dealing with it better than I thought I would this time a couple of weeks ago. I think the fact that the weather has been good is a bit of a mood booster, I've been able to get out on my balcony for work on a couple of days. Although at the same time it's frustrating because it's also perfect beer garden weather.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

If I was having to WFH I wouldnt be enjoying it but since put on furlough, although it's goimgbto cost me quite a large amount of money, there is no stress.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Quick one if I may.

Do you have any stress about what happens next or do you just accept what it is and deal with it?

I ask genuinely as I have some very difficult decisions to make; none of which I’m looking forward to and I’d like to have an idea as to what people genuinely think from a direct and personal experience.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Nope none but I am pretty chilled. I'll likely lose my job if this goes on until June, and that would make me a bit twitchy, but Ive a modest life style, I dont much care for material things, and as long as my kid is okay then Im good.

I dont have many responsibilities though! No mortgage, no debt, no stress.

Surely, as business has always dictated. Some go under and others come in. It's just the bar has been raised that will affect many previously thought were sustainable.

Terrible for some businesses, excellent for others. Isn't that the way it has always worked?
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Yes. It’s usually the poorly run businesses that go under and better and new ones survive.

This won’t be a simple trade off between those who sink and those who start. This is an imbalance between the two. Good businesses and well run businesses who have a healthy market should survive.

Many won’t in this. Through no fault of their own, not that it’s anyone’s fault. This is other than a war time scenario; new ground we are in.

You’re in a good place to be fair and well done for that. My fear is that many will just see this as the first step to them losing their livelihood and in many cases their homes and what they’ve built up.

This next few days for me are going to be horrible, but even worse for others by a very long way. Sleepless nights have been the least of it this last week.

There are many that aren't staying at home now less than a week into the lockdown nevermind June. The government fecked themselves straight away by putting in this ridiculous exercise excuse and also were not clear on what essential workers were. They have been an utter shambles from the start and there are sooo many caaants in this country that will just flout the rules. I can't see us having under 30-40k deaths personally
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I live in the countryside and have been for 2 walks and to Tesco since lockdown, and each time the roads and pavements were completely empty.

There are some idiots of course, but I think it’s the minority.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It's quiet by me as well. An expert on this subject reckons the death toll would be around 7000 if people took heed to the government's guidelines.

We are only on the 6th day and I think the vast majority of the population are sticking to the rules.

Of course there are the downright ignorant and deliberately destructive elements in society but I think and I hope we are starting to see them recognised, shamed and if necessary fined and jailed as we start to recognise the areas and people who continue to risk the rest of us.

I hope this morning was a final warning shot but my concern is that for some they’ll see it as just another challenge or big brother limiting their “rights”.

My own opinion is that we are in this for 5-7 weeks to early May but of course that again depends on how we as a nation behave and what we learn in the interim.

And no I’m not an expert. It’s an opinion.

I said

“Is unnecessary as it stands right now” with “right now” being the qualifying and operative words.

I don’t think it’s necessary right now. Do you?
