It’s definitely worth discussing. Not sure which ‘side’ has the better argument but it’s not so black and white as ‘stay inside indefinitely’ as that in itself can be hugely destructive in its own way.

2 to 3 quarantine seems optimistic. It will be much longer than that.
Don’t know your stance on politics, and don’t want to get into that side of things.
My feeling on this, and it’s quite simplistic, and won’t happen, is that this should serve as a reset button on how we live our lives. Life, family and friends should come before money.

*2 to 3 weeks

this 2-3 week quarantine will go on for at least 8-10 weeks and its only a matter of time before stricter rules are enforced on us because a minority of selfish cants don't think the rules apply to them

Who really cares what happens in the US regarding the work/not work.

I’m interested in seeing the disregard for life it appear to be brewing in the US. Obama would have been the world leader to get us all through this.

Andy Burnham would have been the best UK leader to help us at this time. But in the US you can only serve two terms, in the U.K. the Labour Party has been a shambles for 10 years.

Even if you are solely advocating about health, by default you have to consider the economy and striking the balance between the direct health impacts of coronavirus vs the economic impact of the situation (and the resulting consequences that has).

Any metric that measures the strength of an economy is almost directly proportional with positive health outcomes. You could enforce the strictest martial law to ensure no one gets coronavirus for the next 6 months, and come out to a country with a broken economy that will lead to more deaths and health problems that coronavirus would have caused.

If we truly care about the health of others, the health of the most vulnerable in society and about saving lives, it’d be stupid to not consider the balance between the economy and the direct health impacts of coronavirus.

Was out today for my state sponsored exercise and still see groups of people (mainly teenagers) not adhering to social distancing
Just now the girl across the road she’s around 17 comes out wearing surgical gloves and proceeds to call in her friend and off they go walking side by side
What’s the point?

Trump may have a slight point, but let’s face it he only said it as he’s concerned his 2020 election campaign will take a hit due to the state of the economy. He couldn’t care less about the people.

Scary times ahead either way.

people staying in and eating food all day could become another huge health crisis

The flaw in trump’s thinking is that he thinks the alternative (getting back to work and letting nature takes it’s cause) doesn’t have as big an impact on business.

We simply have no idea.

Is they get caught in rebound after rebound of corona infection and shut downs, it seems logical that that would have a much greater impact on business... especially if the rest of the world just gets it over with in one go.

The economy is the beating heart of Industrial Civilisation.

What we are doing is stopping the heart to save amputating the right foot.

I don't know if this is alarmist or whatever but the behind the scenes work of opening up places to be morgues and/or hospital suggests to me it's going to get worse.

As a govt it's a case of damned if you do damned if you don't. I think the lockdown will get worse but it's not been allowed to happen at once as that would have just drained all resources.

The devil is often in the detail.

What I seen as complacency is in the food delivery trade. People are being non contact as in pay on line and have delivery left on doorsteps.

Yet there was care home workers coming out to pick up food whilst on shift. No gloves no masks and handling cash.

There is imo a maximum amount of time you can realistically isolate people for mental health reasons

It’s all a novelty now and I’m sure we can all last a decent while but there will be a breaking point if this is continued indefinitely

I think one obvious thing to come out of this is why we are all travelling hours a day just to be in the same building as annoying people just because we have always done that, when we can just do our job at home and not clog up roads and transport systems?

The issue is if you just let the virus run the majority of the population will get it. It would absolutely overwhelm the health system. If the virus is everywhere it will start killing more young people. If you look at things now, healthy doctors who are constantly exposed to it are dying.

Trump is the most dangerous man in the world. I really fear for the states with that idiot in charge.

We basically need to lockdown the world for a few months to really get to grips with things.

Lonewolf on the wrong side.
Of course the economy is vital, but until we get corona virus under control we are in a bad place either way, so let's beat the virus first.

Wtf are the parents thinking

I have 15 and 22 year old boys who wanted to go out meet friends, they were told in no uncertain terms if you go out you won’t be coming back in

Funnily enough they haven’t asked again

I've said a few tines that at some point, we will have to fight for our way of life.

A lockdown will eventually cause more damage than Covid. Its up to authorities to figure it out. They have the tools and info to do so.

I have a different Outlook to a degree.

I think people have realised how "isolated" they always were.

Speaking to a woman who is a high flyer, as in triple figure salary and travels all over the world for work, she has isolated with her kid and can't believe what she missed out on

That's just one example obviously. But many elderly have lived in isolation for years. Some are happy to see people checking in on them. Even if it's to drop off supplies

For me it's sad how as a society we have become pretty isolated over the years
