he is not in our PL squad so don't think he could play

I think we'd surely buy him a new 'z' at least...

But the squads are only Feb-June. Like January, after that

technically anyone on your books can play.

There will have to be some ruling, and potentially a transfer window, if we dont start again until late June or after.

These are exceptional circumstances though. The league is supposed to be completed by a certain date, but that isn't happening.

What happens? Tell him he's training with the reserves until he lowers his wages so he can move somewhere else.

I would have had him as back up for Martial this season but with Ighalo coming in and smashing it, he can just leave.

Been saying this. Its not just in football. What happens to contracts? Covid is unprecedented and unregulated. At this point even the lawyers don't know what will be the legal status of contracts after covid. Covid could be classified an act of God and that would turn the whole thing upside down. Legal claims based on covid would instantly perish.

Can players make demands? Their contracts are to provide a service which they aren't/can't do at the moment.

The principle of frustration along applies. Frustration can get you out of a contract. Obviously it won't come to that but at this time its hard to say what will happen.

When football can be played again, it probably needs to start with a transfer window similar to the January window IMO.

But as you said, these are exceptional circumstances. First we will fight covid and then come back and amend or rewrite any rules we need to in order to restore our way of life.

At this time rules mean nothing. League was suspended indefinitely for a reason.

I mean, people expect 3-4 billion seasons to be canceled because of covid and they want drastic action, but the dates for transfer windows and season completion to remain as per the law.

Is covid a big deal or not? What is the motivation for wanting some rules to be scrapped while others remain in place? Sounds convenient for a certain purpose. These tiny laws were made by us and will not stop us doing what we want.

He'd sue Utd easily.

It’s a none issue as this season is going to be cancelled. The rhetoric is starting to change. The authorities are starting to believe that the best thing they can do is save football

You can't just make a rule across all countries that every player must extend their contact, whether they are on loan or on a permanent deal, just so that the league can finish. Every player would have to agree to that, which won't happen. Plus contact laws will be different across different countries. Can't see how it is workable.

I agree. I think that cancelling the non league football hs the forerunner for cancelling all the leagues. Ideally we will see the season finished behind closed doors, but I don't think it is feasible. They can't decide that football is more important than life. If the players are asked to complete the season and one of them gets ill and dies, what then? The club, league and football association are all open to being sued by the players' family. There are so many factors and possibilities to this that people aren't even considering. Every time I think about it the less likely I think it is that the season can be completed.

The longer it goes on like this the more likely I don't think it's going to finish either.

Whilst this would be bad for Liverpool (for obvious reasons) it's bad for United as well as we could have won two trophies and finished top 4 with a fair wind behind us.

Agreed. I'd like to see the season finished. All rivalry aside, it'll be so unfair if Liverpool aren't crowned champions. But I don't think the seasons will be completed.

Don't get me wrong. I don't want Liverpool to win the PL (and I don't think they'll actually be awarded it if it's not completed either) but I'd have been pretty happy to see Henderson with the trophy last weekend if it meant this virus going away.

Longer this goes on though the more likely it is that the season will be made null and void. A huge shame after all the investments clubs and fans have made of course but can't see any other way. You can't delay this for good. What if it were 10 years away?

Agreed. I just don't see how it can be completed now. It is just too complex. And if it isn't, I can't see how Liverpool can be crowned champions.

Crowing Liverpool champions would mean 'fixing' them into a position. If they do that they'd have to 'fix' everyone else as well. You can imagine the lawsuits that could trigger.

With United being one of the clubs that could seriously miss out due to voiding the season we could see a situation where United's lawyers help Liverpool win the title.

If Liverpool don't win it they'll be really unlucky. It's not their fault they've been much better than everyone else but I don't see a way you can crown them without causing loads more problems.

I think cancelling the season will be the spark that eventually leads to:
A larger CL
A PL 2 - with 16 teams in PL and 16 in PL 2
Big changes to the league system below that.
Potentially the League Cup disappearing.

posted on 30/3/20

If it does get cancelled, then I think the fairest way of doing things would be to start the next season with everyone on their current points total.

Teams will get to keep their current point advantage/disadvantage. The unfairness would be that teams have to play more than the current 8/9/10 games left to achieve titles/win promotion/avoid relegation.

If it only resumes around Dec/Jan instead of July/August then perhaps a half season in the league with maybe cup comps limited to the teams that are still involved in this season's cups?

posted on 30/3/20

Can't see the points thing being acceptable, tbh Barf. Also, what do you do with teams with games in hand - give them all 3 points for every game or penalise them for playing less?

What about adding the remaining games to next season's fixtures? So the title is decided over 2 seasons with team's playing each other 4 times. We would probably have to sacrifice the cups to get the games in, but it would remove the unfairness of just wiping out a team's advantage that they have earned. It would also remove the issue of player's contracts. They could still move around in the summer as normal.

Is that what I said? Is extending contracts the only solution? That's a tough one to achieve and you can't put words in my mouth.

Perhaps a new Premier League too and we can start the title count from zero again, just like 92.

Liverpool with Klopp, Arsenal with Arteta and United with Ole.

Good luck.
