Gonna be at least a decade of economic recovery.. in it for the long haul.

I'll be 70 before I ever see real wage growth and then I'll have to retire

And this is the real damage to the world and it’s population.

I am in no way suggesting we aren’t doing the right thing or even if we are doing enough. Only the stats in a few weeks time will give an indicator.

But there will be a time very soon when harsh reality bites and we may need to try as best as we can with normal life in spite of this virus claiming lives.

The mention of a potential 6 month lockdown last night will send an already floundering market into an absolute tailspin is my guess and many thousands of businesses will now just make the very harsh decisions they were trying to put off for a while at least.

I just hope we see some encouragement in the numbers and the testing and we take the pressure off the front line services as soon as possible.

The only way to get the country functioning again is incessant mass testing (and I don't mean every Sunday). It's what the Koreans are doing and they do it well.

It would also however mean allowing the government to take liberties with our civil rights and particularly giving them access to our whereabouts at all times through telecommunications. And I don't think as a society we're going to give that up easily.

The alternative of course is an entirely new global economic system (and dare I say based on socialism) but I think that might be a bit of an extreme reaction at this point for too many.

Although the revolution is near comrades. <hammerandsickle>

Rubbish

You'd destroy the way of life for the earth's population to save some more people from dying?

In the grand scheme of things a cost v life balance is made every single day and you along with everyone else will be a meaningless "bean" to the counters.

I was reading something before the COVID19 onslaught that a worldwide recession was looming, COVID19 has certainly put the nail in that coffin. It could well be a painful recovery, let's hope not and we can all bounce back quickly

The very nature of this will batter any confidence. The longer this goes on the far longer it will take any recovery.

Fatal for 1% or complete bollox for the remaining 99% for years to come?

Real decisions for real people. They are trying to steer a course. Not easy.

You're deliberately missing the point and trying in an inept fashion to bring emotion into the discussion.

So whilst no, you nor I would put a price on any of our loved one's heads; the world just doesn't and couldn't work like that.

Two UK companies have just fallen into administration, as the Covid-19 crisis continues to damage the British economy.

Brighthouse, the rent-to-own electricals giant, and restaurant chain Carluccio’s have both entered administration, putting more than 4,000 jobs at risk.

Both suffered a slump in customer numbers since the government instructed people to stay at home, and non-essential shops to shut.

Carluccio’s, which has 73 branches and about 2,000 employees, has been on the brink of administration for days -- a restaurant group can’t operate for long with no customers. It had already been forced to shut 30 loss-making sites in 2018.
