Just finish his season then play next season.

The simple solution is to set a latest date to get the season finished and if we can hit it, great, if not, abandon

Just get through this unprecedented crisis, make sure it's safe to play sport again, asses where we are date wise and go from there.

Part of me thinks we’ll be in lockdown for long enough to make the 2019/20 season turn into the 2019/21 season.

Let’s say social distancing measures are enforced for another 6 months, with no football able to be played in that period. That takes us to October, the teams will probably need a few weeks to get back to peak levels, so they could play the rest of the current season November through to Jan. Then we’d either be waiting until the summer for Euros followed by the 21/22 season, or we’d start the next season in say Feb/March.

Not a clue how it’d work with player contracts and transfers but one positive would be the following seasons align a little better with the stupid winter World Cup in Qatar!

What if they manage to play some of the games but not all by the deadline?

There is no deadline

They wouldn't play some games if they couldnt finish by the deadline.

Why?

People are acting like there is some strict legislation which says we have to start next season by a certain point. There isnt...just finish this season when we can and then start the next accordingly. Yeah player contracts are an issue, but a much easier issue to solve than the ones that comes with voiding a season.

The only thing that has facked it a bit is UEFA stupidly setting the date for the next Euros. But again, I'm sure that can be adjusted if need be.

Doesn’t make any sense to restart the season with any risk of it still not being able to properly conclude.

Realistically we’re probably not looking at any football resuming until June at the earliest, I’m sure there will be a team of people beavering away (from home and at a safe distance) to determine what the most financially lucrative option will be once we get closer to any sign of restrictions being eased.

Each team has 9/10 games left.

With the squad sizes, this could all be done in a 3 week blitz considering the players will have had plenty of rest.

How can it be a double season if there will only be 1 PL winner?

Would result in Liverpool being given a Premier League trophy twice the size and equalling 2 normal ones.

What about the cups?

This idea is the worst of all I've heard.

Just think about the idea and try and play it out in your head. By Christmas time the points disparity would mean half of the games would be played like friendlies with none of the players really needing to give any kind of sh-t. Promotions and relegations starting to be confirmed with 15 games left.

It also gives the teams who are clearly better than others even more advantage. Be a bit like scheduling a ODI between Australia and Kenya, but letting David Warner start on 100 not out. Or having Mayweather fight Khan, but Amir is in a blindfold with his laces tied together.

An average first half of the season for my team and we could probably register our mascot, Terry the Terrier, in the January window and bang him in goal, such would be the sheer futility of it all. No-one's paying £30 quid to come and watch that.

Yeah.

United have a maximum of 19 games left to play I believe. Wouldnt be too happy doing that in 3 weeks.

The way United pick up injuries as well, you'd probably need to bring Bobby Charlton out of retirement by the second week.

Like a Clausura-Apertura type set-up in South America? It would novel. I think when it's safe to start playing again, finish the current season, then see were we lie regarding the next one, I think seeing the full completion of 19/20 is more important than when 20/21 will start, personally.

Though if this season was voided, I would wet my pants laughing, for obvious reasons...

We either finish the season by a set date or we render this one null and void and start again when we can.

Planning needs to be in place now to see how we can condense a full season into 5,6,7,8,9 (delete as applicable) months.

The double season would be pretty boring for most clubs and any new season optimism would soon go when you realise you start 30plus points behind the top.

It's not perfect but I don't think there is a perfect solution. I don't see any way of completing this season before the transfer window opens. And for me the transfer window opens a whole load of issues. At least this way the results this season aren't lost and Liverpool would surely still win the title

You can’t give the players the biggest amount of time off they’ve had in their careers and then expect them to come in and play two games a week in a short space of time

It’s a worse idea than new coke

If we can complete this seasons fixturs then why would we need to double up the seasons. We cannot play back to back remaining fixtures and next seasons fixtures it will be far too long a run of games. a 48 game season with cups and internationals and then the Euros.. Too much

Just write off the season, apologise to Liverpool and wait for this to be fixed which is gonna take months if not years.

I know this is funny for non Liverpool fans but containing C19 and making sure the world is safe is infinitely more important than football. It really does suck for Liverpool and I’m sure you can tell them they’ve won this season but the truth is no one will really truly accept it even though Liverpool deserve it. It’s just terrible bad luck for them but with far more important issues to deal with.

Start a new season. This season's over. Even if you were to 'restart' the season later at some point, it would be a new season in all but name so why not just call it what it is.
