To be fair, not even politicians earn as much as these pampered footballers?
The pay rises they got, it's like a week's wage for certain footballers?
MP's basic salary is £74k per year, the PM's salary is £149,440 per year.
There's a load of average premier league players getting the equivalent in a week to what an MP gets a year and loads of half decent players picking up more than £150k a week aso.
Also the average trade union leader gets £145k a year, pretty much the same as someone leading the Country
yeah i dont think MPs salaries although better than the average come anywhere near the average prem footballers.
theres what 650 MPs in the commons? say they earned 100k salary each average thats 65million, thats just about covers de bruyne, sanchez and pogbas salaries.
When you consider that the average constituency mp serves 100k people and gets 74k a year.
Whereas many Prem players get more than that a week for kicking a bag of wind around I would say mp's have every right to be as critical as they like.
Most MP's live on their expenses anyway.
Salaries are a way of amassing capital.
Local politics is where the real money is to be had.
In London:
The local authority with the most employees who received remuneration in excess of £100,000 in 2017-18 was Hackney council who paid 28 employees over £100,000.
The biggest remuneration package in this region was received by Wandsworth’s Chief Executive - £294,805.
In the North East:
The local authority with the most employees who received remuneration in excess of £100,000 in 2017-18 was County Durham with 17.
The biggest remuneration package in this region was received by Northumberland’s Chief Executive - £413,492.
In the North West:
The local authority with the most employees who received remuneration in excess of £100,000 in 2017-18 was Cheshire East with 19.
The biggest remuneration package in this region was received by Wirral’s Managing Director for Delivery - £569,423.

As you see, that's so wrong in so many ways. The counter argument I have heard is that the players wages are driven by the demand for people to want to see them play?

I've always maintained that if aliens landed with the intention of ruling the earth once they learned what people could earn for kicking a ball, hitting a ball with a racket or throwing a ball through a hoop and they then looked at the amount of povery in the world they would fack off sharpish.
The reason being that wouldn't want to risk taking up arms against such a mad planet.
Their not wrong though. How does any player bank 100k+ a week during this, then come back and look a low income staff member in the eye who’s been furloughed on 80% of their salary. Players should be offering to take the hit first on the grounds of human decency.

Well said.
The amount of money being pumped into the game by broadcasters and sponsors, why shouldn't players be entitled to a big share of it given they're the reason the money is being put there in the first place?
The best bit is, a large proportion of the people who moan about how much footballers earn, are the ones facilitating it through buying high priced tickets, tv subscriptions and merchandise. You don't want footballers to earn massive money? Then stop paying for it.

Cap worldwide player wages at 1mil a year.
Still lots of money and the best players will comfortably earn the most from their various lucrative endorsements.
What about musicians who earn Millions every year?

That won't work though, not when bids for TV deals are now into the billions. I'd much rather see the players getting that money than club shareholders.
Don’t have any issue with players wages at a time like this
They’re paid by private companies and loads of their wages get taxed which is what we need coming into the coffers.
If the club can’t afford to pay those wages that is another thing, however
Boris, leave the musicians alone,a high % of musicians do NOT earn a lot of money.

How about the owners/ chief executives take a hit first.
Levy pocketing millions in bonuses on the same day he essentially let go of staff.
The Billionaire owners of said PL clubs should guarantee full wages of staff.
That being said, the players could do with taking a wage haircut too.
