The scheme is designed to protect employees who may well have been made redundant.
The looming prospect of having to pay back a £637m stadium mortgage, during uncertain economic times, would bring out the worst in anybody.

There is a monthly cap of £2500.
Which shows you who the scheme is aimed to help.
Barca’s players have taken a 70% pay cut. They have also donated a further 2% of their salaries to make sure non playing staff are paid 100% whilst there’s no football.
That’s what leadership looks like.
If one players gave up their wages for a week the club could pay hundreds of staff.
I know the likes of United and Liverpool are bigger clubs but they’ve shown their class in recent weeks but continuing to give all employees full pay.

There's a difference between non-playing staff and the players.
Non-playing staff are currently truly redundant. No one to serve food and drink to, sell tickets to, show around the stadium etc In ordinary circumstances they be made redundant, but are protected here and are currently being paid to do nothing. I have no issue of the principle of what Spurs are doing, massive organisations like Starbucks Mc Donald etc all doing the same. What I find depressing is that Spurs could pay the extra 20% so staff lose no money (80% paid by Govt, 20% by club) but seemingly are not. This truly is tight!
Players could be back playing in a month, so need to keep training etc They are not redundant. THere is no legal mechanism to impose pay cuts for these players, it has to be done by agreement. This will not be easy and will take a bit of negotiating - made harder by the whole social distancing thing.

20% of Kanes wages would probably fund most of the lost 20% of the non playing staff.
But I do agree. There needs to be a PR recovery here.
Re: PLayers I suppose it all depends on how the season plays out. If we do restart then the major money - TV etc will come to us. We'll lose Matchday revenue if behind closed doors - reportedly up to £4m a game = £20m.
Players may not wish to take a big cut where actually they are still required to do their jobs in full and end up having a shorted off season etc
In other leagues and smaller clubs, cashflow will be a massive thing and a month or 2 without revenue might well make it impossible to pay everyone. EPL clubs will be able to soak up a cashflow issue, so no immediate need for players to take a cut. Just looks bad that the normal staff are being asked to do so.
Spurs are not a charity. I can see why leftist virtue signallers are squealing - it must feel good to them as they hide their hypocrisy at feeding the capitalist monster that funds their idol on one hand, whilst waving the red flag of Corbyn in the other.
