Decision making has to be in the best interest of all of football at all levels, not just whether Liverpool get their title, Utd get their top 4 place, West Ham stay up or go down.
----------------------------------------------------
Spot on.

Whatsmore. clubs at the lower level won't have Chinese TV companies wanting PL football back on at any cost.

We will be in the same state of lockdown until at least September and there's likely to be tighter restrictions enforced inbetween.

If you think top level professional football's going to start anytime soon then you're deluded.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I don't think we will be in this state of lockdown until then at all. We may not be back to normal by then, but I highly doubt we will be in this situation we find ourselves in right now.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I hope not, I've been at home 3 weeks now. Another 5 months would see out the end of August

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Nah, never going to happen. Until this season even finishes or gets scrapped, nothing else moves. So this season will get scrapped sooner or later. That at least then clears the way forward.

It looks like the curve is already starting to flatten in terms of the number of cases. Deaths still shooting up but I guess that is to be expected for now sadly.

Comment I made the other day:

Think I'm one of the few who want to void the season. Or end it early to hopefully allow next season to work as normal.

My reasoning is the same as why I don't want VAR. Because football is universal and should be the same everywhere. I coach an under 7s team and iv already been told our season has ended. Our presentation might cancelled. One of my mates boys, plays for the same club at under 10s and his final that he reached has been cancelled. Instead, both teams get a "finalist" trophy.

My boy, who plays in the team I coach, actually cried when I told him the season has ended. But we understand why.

Why should professional football be different to grass roots? It's the same sport with the same emotions. I'd argue that the emotion in grass roots football is just as high.

If grass roots football has been cancelled then the same must be done across all football in this country. No excuses whatsoever.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I agree. Many are looking at this from their top tier clubs point of view.

The reality is that all our leagues are interlinked. EPL cannot scrap this season if the Championship plays to a conclusion and vice versa.

And the biggest impact of this is on the clubs who do not have the financial power of the top leagues. Whenever I go to my home town team of Exeter City, its buckets handed round trying to raise money for the club. These sort of clubs truly exist on the margins financially.

If people suggest scrapping next season just so this can be finished then this will destroy grass routes and lower league clubs. What these clubs need is to return to normal at the earliest opportunity. If it becomes clear that finishing this season will seriously undermine completing next in a normal way then the greater interest is in the long term, not this season.

Decision making has to be in the best interest of all of football at all levels, not just whether Liverpool get their title, Utd get their top 4 place, West Ham stay up or go down.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Well you need to tell Uefa this then, they want the season completed.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Pranks, don't be so defensive.

I gave my opinion. It doesn't have to match that of UEFA.

I believe decisions made for football in the country should across the board. I don't agree that football should divide people based on money.

Whether the decision to void it or not is right, is not really my point.

If the decison was to delay this season for grass roots football then I'd say the same should happen at grass roots level.

I'm not being defensive I'm just telling you how it is

Uefa sent a letter last night with their plans to all the European FA's.( This is all over the news)

If you think everything will just be cancelled just because grass root footy has been cancelled you're being naive

Of course they do and they think it can happen in July & August, which would lead to a new season starting in Late Sept/Oct.

That's probably doable and their demands are an attempt to stop leagues acting in the way Belgium have.

BUT their demands may well be overtaken by events. They say "We are confident that football can restart in the months to come with conditions that will be dictated by public authorities" but they cannot guarantee that. It is a hope but the know jack$hit about whether this virus situation will enable this to happen. They just hope it can.

What I am about to say is in no way my view or said to WUM

BUT

From a Liverpool perspective (which is why you are so passionate about this topic) I think some fans will alrwsdy view this season as "tarnished" anyway even if its played through.

The record hooks will say you won it but people will always talk about the massive delay in play midway through.

the record books will say liverpool had the title locked up in december and spurs made top four because a pandemic allowed their injured players enough time to recover.

People will also talk about our 25 point lead at the point the league was paused. The best season by any team in the any of the top leagues and all.those records broken or to be broken

No reasonable person will doubt that Liverpool won the league this season.

Personally, I've thought for ages that the talk has been around scrapping the wrong season. 20/21 should be scrapped. The current season should be ended when we can, the Euros would be in the summer, the World Cup the year after that so there would need to be some padding in the 21/22 season anyway. Aim to finish this season by around March or April next year, along with cups and European competitions, have the Euros a bit earlier in the year than usual. Any gap you have before that, you can fill with a bespoke, one-off competition of whatever length you want. The Covid-19 Cup (2021).

But the reason why everyone's struggling to find a solution is because they're so wedded to having a full, complete calendar next season. Scrap that and everything gets a lot easier.

_______________________________________

I was suggesting this two weeks ago. We have no idea when the outbreak europe wide will be over.

Hopefully by Christmas! When we could restart the season.

Stop being so defensive. I'm just telling you my opinion on what some fans will say. I agree you have smashed it this season, no complaints from me. But the season has turned into an anomaly which, IMO, will be something that some feel will tarnish this season.

For you it won't, which I guess is all that matters really.

Putting myself in your shoes, I'd not care either.
