Indeed, pity they were forced into it so I’m not really going to applaud that.

if true then I am proud of the boys

It’s not really snitching to be proud of, weeny they going to be forced to a 30% cut anyway?

Good tgat they’ve asked for it to go to nhs but not exactly a great gesture, not even comparable to things we’ve seen others do.

I wouldn’t say they’ve been forced into it - if Gordon Taylor had his way the players would have kept all their money

I’m willing to believe in a pandemic the players aren’t so out of touch that they would just say fack you to the fans etc. It’s a lot easier to donate money when there is a blanket amount agreed with the PL and that was done yesterday

Hmm, perhaps, still I don’t think it’s much to be proud of, as effectively they’ve just made sure that 30% cut goes to a good place. Didn’t pep donate 920k to help fight it in Spain? Makes the players ‘feature’ look a bit shiiit. Still I’m glad they didn’t just take the cut, and proactively made sure it went to a good place. Kudos for that at least.

Judging by what the article says (how reliable that is, is anyone's guess!) it sounds like Ed spoke to Harry and it was then put to the team who agreed.

It doesn't really sound forced to me.

Still, it's the gesture that counts. And at a time when Players from other teams (worldwide) are moaning about cuts, and non-playing staff are actually being forced to take cuts in order to "protect the club finances" I'd say it's a very good move on Utd's part.

It’s certainly a good pr move, Liverpool could certainly learn from it

Not sure you can compare pep to players like Rashford and co, their wealth is worlds apart at the moment.

I believe that 30% of Alexis Sanchez's weekly wage is about 950k

I just read that online though.

I’m not saying I’d expect Rashford to do that, far from it. Sone of the wealthier senior pros perhaps have even more money than pep. My point was that it’s being forced on them anyway, they’ve just elected to ensure it goes to a good place, which is great, but it doesn’t exactly make them mother Theresa.

Though if it results in other players in other clubs doing similar, then it’s a good start.

I’m not saying they have or haven’t but how do you know they haven’t given money to help?

De Gea made a donation and it was only made public by the people he gave it to.

I’m sure a lot of them do stuff for charity behind the scenes, not always public as I think keane famously said. Pogba is the only one I know of, saying if the public donated 27k he’d match it.

Football is a short career, not many will go on to earn what pep does after retirement.

A lot of these players come from poor backgrounds and provide for more than themselves. Not to mention they'll have cash tied up in assets. I'd be surprised if many have millions sat in the bank.

Sure they'll never be poor if they invest wisely, but anybody giving up wages to support the country right now should be applauded not criticised.

Baz, they are just footballers. They have been told since young that they were special. Being rich doesn't make them intelligent or ethical. They've got together and decided to give away at least 50k each at a guess.
Cut them some slack. Even Mother Theresa wasn't Mother Theresa.

United players breaking ranks and making an early announcement to make it look they started it when all the players follow suit.

Meeting between bigwigs agrees to call all captains to a meeting to arrange for players to take a 30% pay cut. Next day United players jump the gun and make a unilateral announcement.

The crowd goes wild.

Personally, I think all players should get 50% salary or less until football resumes.

You just made all that up. But I agree with the50%, particularly if you then don't need government help paying the staff.
Congregations on winning the sour comment of the day.

I think the pertinent question would be, would they have given up any wages unless forced (like they have been)?

I am confused by all of this tbh.

the PL keep insisting they will finish the season. so why are they worried about having to repay tv money?

why are clubs furloughing staff when this is essentially the summer break brought forward and the summer to be replaced by the end of the season?

take Liverpool for example, they haven't had to repay TV money, Season tickets or Sponsorship money so why are they furloughing? do they furlough in the summer when there's no football for 3 months?

I was impressed to see Rashford last week donating money to ensure poor kids get fed with schools shutting down - impressed with the gesture but also the maturity and humility of his perspective as he talked about growing up poor, on free school meals. He really does seem a fine human being, and deserves everything he achieves in the coming years.
