I give about 5% a month (tax deductible). All to animal/environment charities.

I donate regularly to Alzheimer's research in honour of my grandad who died 10 years ago from it. Would love to see people not have to suffer from this for much longer.

In terms of now I'm sort of giving my time in the evenings. I work in business support during the day but in the evenings I look at local Facebook groups and point them in the right direction to where they can get financial support. Even though my work markets the service we provide widely not everyone is aware of what it does.

Also, because we get quite a bit of holidays per year anyway, and I won't be using a lot of leave for obvious reasons this year, I've offered a week's leave to be donated to the NHS. Not sure how this would work but in extreme cases were I not be able to take leave I could get paid for them so I'm hoping they can do something here. It's not out of my pocket but it's what I can afford which is my time.

Wow my article criticising MU52’s secret crush has clearly caused irrevocable harm

Dave, RR,

You're right. It sounds like a horrible job to have to do. I always assumed it was students doing it to get "worked for a charity" on their CV.

I'll ignore them less passive aggressively in future.

We have to remember that in most cases the time you can give is more valuable than the money you can give.

But of course, this doesn't apply to billionaires. Cash please.

Not directly related to this article, but today is Fabrice Muamba's 32nd birthday. I am so proud he played for my club and in many ways it is a miracle he is still with us. He is a gentleman who has done so much good work for charity and getting defibrillators into schools and public spaces. He gives a huge amount of time if not actual money. A lesson to us all

I give monthly to two charities, have done for years.

Since the coronavirus really started to make itself felt over here, I've been donating weekly to different charities. I'm able to work from home, so every week I'm planning to donate at least what I'm saving on transport, but so far I've given more like twice that.

Charities I've donated to so far are the coronavirus DEC charity committee, Age UK, and a local foodbank.

Nope. I've just had a scan through and the only post it could be is the one on Hamilton. If that's the case you are mistaken, far from having a crush on him I can't say I like him. I don't watch formula one so hardly ever see him

Just before corona I stopped a monthly payment because I was concerned it potentially wasn’t being used to maximum efficiency. Whilst I’m on furlough there’s no way I’ll be setting up anything soon sadly, but if you read up on Will MacAskill he’s basically dedicated a lot of time looking at charities where your money will be used more efficiently. It’s quite a time consuming process to actually wade through everything, but certain malaria charities in particular will make a huge difference globally if supported. Right now charity starts at home, but hopefully once we’re through this can pick it up.

A proper taxation system that then provides a safety net for all people is the best solution
