A bad misstep from Levy

Ooh, seems I'm wrong. Levy is taking a 20% pay cut, along with other non-playing staff, for April and May.

But point still stands about the elusive and mysterious Joe Lewis, with his £4.3 billion fortune!

Good article Lanespur. Although Levy himself gets possibly more stick than he should in my opinion.

After my article on here slating Levy, had a chat with some Spurs journos, and was told the management were taking a pay cut, so that actually made sense.

I think a lot is being made of this furlough stuff by clubs, and actually the clubs are not furloughing players on 2k + a week? Only the internal guys who normally would get the chop, are being kept with the retention scheme. That's a business decision that any business on the land would make.

Yep, I think you're right. Definitely more nuanced than it's being made out, and Levy is definitely being set up as an easy pantomime villain - the uncaring, ruthless businessman, etc - but he's no Ashley and I genuinely hope he is doing it for the right reasons, to keep staff on who would otherwise have been laid off.

At least Spurs used the furlough scheme, unlike Tim Martin and Gordon Ramsay!

I do still find it difficult, though, to see how a club of our size and wealth don't have the resources to help out staff without resorting to the furlough scheme.

really cant understand people getting on levis back over this, he has kept people in a job who under normal circumstances would be out of work when there is nothing for them to do for so long, my missus's guvnor closed her company down and put 8 people out of work the day before the lock down, no 80% ,no job to go back to at the end of this nightmare

i think what has made the criticism more than it would of been and more than the likes of bournemouth/newcastle have got is because spurs are supposedly one of the big clubs and no other supposedly big club has done it

When you discover how Lewis made his money, you'll probably come to the opinion that its time he gave some of it back!

I've read this diatribe by lanespur .....twice...no three times.....and I'm still left wondering who is at fault, for what?
Levy is good for this but bad for that.
He's done good stuff but... wait.... didn't he have a do nothing hiring season which poor Pochettino suffered through?
Is a nice stadium for an odd Billion what the die hard fans really wanted?
No silverware ....... well we can live with that!!!

And Joe Lewis ...from ice cream parlor in east London to currency manipulator in the Caribbean......well well,...just a nice guy?

Football clubs are not cash cows and don't make money? H'm...how about Tottenham Hotspur?
Done an accountancy scan of the balance sheets over the years, have we?
One thing ...Lewis and Levy certainly aren't losing any money. "We're all right, Jack,...too bad about you!"

Well I hope lanespur will write a final summary...say just one paragraph for us poor buggars who can't understand any of it!

Excellent article LaneSpurs, very well written.

Levy used the argument that most football clubs don't even turn a profit despite Spurs posting pre-tax profits of over £68m in 2019.

I think while a lot of non football businesses of a similar size have used the furlough scheme, not using the scheme and paying non playing staff was a viable option. Or Spurs could at least have made up the 20% difference not covered by the furlough scheme.

The Premier League players have played a PR blinder with this £4m donation that has been promised. I got the calculator out and based on 512 players in the Premier League that is less than £8,000 per player. A lot of them earn more than that in a day. Generous, but not that generous.

I thought the opposite..... a very confusing article and not at all well written,...nor thought out.
Not very knowledgeable about either Levy or Lewis and their money.
As for the players coughing up ...
Barca players are taking a 75% pay cut.

The same account tweeted this 3 days earlier :

Tanguy Ndombele enjoyed a 1-on-1 training session with Tottenham manager José Mourinho on Hadley Common yesterday, in actions on the part of the pair that broke with UK government protocol on COVID-19 induced quarantine. !!!!!!

Not sure what they are playing at. Fun and games.

Ted, it is an excellent article, and well written, giving both sides of the story in an unbiased fashion.

Damned if I could understand who the good guys are, and who the bad guys are.
He knows nothing of Joe Lewis, his skint flint family upbringing or how he made his money.
I found it an article that pretended to knowledge it did not have....and therefore useless.

Let's be honest Levey has burdened you in the same way that an unthinking parent burdens a child by giving them a stupid name or sending a 15 year old boy to school with a micky mouse drinking cup and a frozen school bag. Basically Levey is prepared to let you guys take the hit for the contents of his wallet.

If I were you I'd start practising your best "oh not that one again, haven't you got anything else in your locker"

The timing of it is awful. Levy is not having a good year/season at all.

I see in the gossip pages today it says Levy is also up for Kane being sold to United for £200m. This is going to be a story that will plague us for a while even if it is bollox. If it isn't and we end up losing Kane then Levy's reputation is going to be in tatters with us fans.
