No way she’s underrated. From a writing perspective, releasing something like whuthering heights as a what 18 year old, as her first or second single, against the labels choice, and hitting no1 for a month with a song that’s pretty mental in terms of time signatures, style, and content?
No, that woman is a musical genius.

lyrically, John Cooper Clarke’s “Beasley Street” is one of the things ever put to music, great music too

No way The Cure are underrated. Incredible band everyone knows they're incredible.
As for actual underrated bands: Minus the Bear, Youth Lagoon, Wild Beasts, Riverside
Go West - Catchy songs, great lead singer. Call Me is timeless.
Level 42 - loads of great songs
Curiosity Killed The Cat - Seemed to have it all, great tunes, great singer, whatever happened to them?

Wakey I think.

He certainly could be yeah, but some of the music Be Bop did was outstanding.
Futurama is one of those albums everyone should own.
The God Machine.
Massively influential for many bands that went on to be... well, massive (Tool, Mogwai etc) yet not many people seem to know of them, aside from other musicians.
A band's band, then.
I liked Echobelly in the 90s.
Listened to their albums a few days ago at work as well and they brought back good memories. Not groundbreaking but some pretty decent tunes and a cute lead singer.
