Withnail and I, a real one off movie and very quotable
Saving Private Ryan on a loop probably the best war movie intro and the ending was superb.... Thin Red Line also for a different take on war
Wild at Heart and Eraserhead
I like a lot of Lynch
Twin Peaks Fire Walk with me, the real ending to twin peaks IMO
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I watched Saving Private Ryan (on videođź‘€) and the first 20 minutes or so left me reeling. It was devastating to see.
My next door neighbour Brian was well into his 80's and fit as a fiddle. We used to have a Whiskey and a chat a couple of times a month.
After SPR finished I grabbed my best Single Malt and 2 Crystal Cut Glasses and went round.
Me : "Brian, I've just watched Saving Private Ryan, have you seen it?"
Brian : "Yes, it's great"
Me : "I can't believe what you went through, it was hard enough just watching that, it must have been awful..."
Brian : "What are you talking about? It was the best time of my life."
Me : "Yeah, terrib... eh?"
Brian : "You lot today don't think anytging of jumping on a plane and going anywhere you want, we couldn't even dream of going abroad, it was brilliant, away with your mates, fantastic!'
Me : "... "

Never liked whitnail or the thin red line. Found whitnail weird and thin red dull, though it’s been a long time since I watched it so might revisit
Platoon is on my list, love that film. Forrest Gump too. Indiana Jones.
Yes, I should have put Withnail and I.
Great film. Have probably watched it four or five times.
Not great, but I watch Zulu every time it comes around

Take one each... draw lots to see which.....

The rape seen in irreversible is one of the worst scenes I've ever seen. Makes the fire extinguisher scene seem pleasant.
I found A Serbian Film to be rather comical. It's like they were trying too hard to gross people out.

I have t seen that but heard it’s vile. Also the whole film is designed to make you ill. The camerawork still start designed to give you vertigo and there’s a 29hz drone purposely added but barely audible throughout.
Platoon is on my list, love that film. Forrest Gump too. Indiana Jones.

Agreed on Platoon, you can tell it’s directed by someone who was there, very raw and desperate movie, also the music is iconic. Loved the pot smoking to tracks of my tears....

Some of my favourite parts. The massacre of the village is based on a real incident that happened in the war My lai massacre which was much, much worse than what happened in the film. A real shameful and shocking episode in us army history.
I quite like the deliberate drug of choice type interplay between the angry drinkers and the more philosophical pot heads.
Between 347 and 570 unarmed Vietnamese killed by us soldiers at my lai, and not one person held accountable by the us army.... can see why stone chose to use the basis in his film.
A very under rated Vietnam movie is Michael J Fox in Casualties of war. It’s about the rape and kidnapping of a local Vietnamese village girl by group of soldiers. True story. Excellent movie but harrowing.
Bloodsport
Kickboxer
Universal Soldier
Hard Target
Time cop
A.W.O.L
Double Impact
Van Damme Classics - endlessly rewatchable.
Jurassic Park
Lost World
Rocky
Hangover 1,2,3
Total Recall
Slap Shot
Con Air
almost all of the movies mentioned are great but not in my pile of I cant watch again
