I'm currently working my way through Plantation Xaymaca - it's a dry rum. It's very nice.
I don't add mixers to my rum though so no idea what it's like if you add stuff.

I worked in a bar for eight years so I feel qualified to answer that as Castle isn't here.
It will taste a bit more like whatever you added to it.
Bought the Appleton's. Not much choice in Tesco.
