At one point you have to balance between keeping people safe and also people having work and an economy to support us all.

Not seen images of the tube/London roads over the last 6-7 weeks, what is it normally like, a ghost town? Twitter isn’t a barometer of the news for me.

Not missed a minute throughout this.

Work in the only sector who basically never gets a mention in all of this - manufacturers deemed essential from the start.

But aye shout out to all the truck drivers keeping all those goods moving that come from the magic essential goods fairy...….
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Do you want praise?

I know a lot of people like myself who haven't missed a days work but that is just down to the nature of whatever you do.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Do I want praise? Strange direction to go with that.....

No of course I don't want 'praise' but I do think my staff, like any other staff who have worked through, should at least be acknowledged every now and then.

Point is there are multiple sectors frequently being mentioned and there are other sectors constantly being omitted.

Manufacturing is hardly a niche area which cant be readily acknowledged yet I have never once heard it being mentioned throughout this.

We have remained open due to direct government guidance from DEFRA and BEIS. And despite putting various measures in place we have had to ask staff to take a level of risk in doing so.

And it is particularly difficult when they see friends staying at home every day keeping safe. Particularly those on furlough who are getting paid to do so.

I am just saying it would be nice if they got a mention and felt their efforts were appreciated by the people they are helping. Anything that could have a positive effect on morale would be welcome.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

I was being fecet...fascetiou...

I was being sarcastic. I got your point. I have no issue with the frontline NHS staff getting praise for what they do. The praise that started to get spread around for other services was purely borne out of people in a huff wanting some attention for going in to work. As we have discussed there are plenty of us going to work or working from home - we don't expect praise.

It's the same for this daft applause on a Thursday - it has become a get one up on your neighbour and post it for likes on Facebook

Agreed.

The clapping was fine for that one night.

After that it should have stopped and everyone getting back to ensuring the government fund it appropriately.

Not for a 99 year old man to raise over £30 million by walking his flooking garden path.

Why are people acting surprised that the country needs to get back to work?

Baffling to say the least. Are we meant to hide away until we find a vaccine?

I think you have reduced that down to something trivial and almost childish to be honest.

Morale has been a genuine issue in recent weeks. Not all people are still happy to be working right now - at having to take risks when others don't.

And it might not always be immediately obvious to some people why they have to keep coming to work in the current situation whilst others don't.

It has been a difficult time for shop floor manufacturing workers where social distancing simply cannot always be observed due to the nature of their activities. And the supply chain issues with PPE have been well reported so whilst we are doing everything that we can it has not always been ideal.

People have been asked to take risks they don't normally take and are not being paid any more for their trouble.

So for me it is definitely not just a case of folk in a huff wanting attention for going to work.

You seem to have taken that personally. I already said I was being sarcastic - in no way was it aimed at you but it seems to have hit a nerve

I am perhaps fortunate in my line of work but plenty of relatives are not and continued to work in NHS roles, factory roles etc

Been at work throughout as classed as key and 80% of the time I've been grateful as it get me out of the house but the other 20% I wouldn't half like to stay in bed until 10 before spending the day in my dressing gown with novelty bear claw slippers.

My morning routine involves getting up 25 minutes before work, having a shower then doing the commute down stairs.

About to go my daily 3 mile walk at lunch, run with eldest later to get his fitness back . I do miss the gym. I had just got back into training when this all hit. I am waiting on David Lloyd to reopen then start getting a good training routine. If I had a garage I'd have bought a good treadmill by now.

I've also been working all they way through, key worker, but in my role it's very easy to keep to the social distancing. I'm lucky, but some of my friends who are furloughed are climbing the walls.

Think Johnson doesn't want people to dwell on the figures and wants people to talk about something else . He's prepared to gamble people's lives on it .

Spot on

It's only the peasants that need to return to work, the important people can work from home.

Just seems odd that for weeks we were told Lockdown measures wouldn't be eased until "5 tests" had been achieved.

Yet we haven't achieved them all, so what has changed?

I've been working all the way through. Don't mind at all really as it's a break from being in the house and at least I feel I'm doing something. It's also good for mental health as I don't think I'd be well if I'd have been stuck at home for most of the day.

Absolutely mate, being stuck in the house at the weekend is bad enough.
