Professional sport must plan for a future without crowds for months and possibly years. A depressing thought for all of us who enjoy going to football, cricket, rugby, horse-racing, motor sport etc.

It will change sport as we know it.

Sports teams training isn't really exercising in the same way, it's their job. Johnson also said that if you can't do your job from home, go into work. There are very few workplaces nationwide that you can socially distance from your colleagues. Loads of people have gone back to work today and will be mixing with colleagues.

It's a case of adapt or die for sport and the sports industry. I wonder how Sky Sports and BT finances are looking at the moment, I'd bet subscriber levels have dropped off a cliff.

How much of what's happening at the moment is being driven by what's good for the health of the nation and how much because of money?

Best, not sure that's really how the plan wording was intended. Football will need government's approval to resume training.

Els, I think Gov muddling around at present, there are many conflicting messages and it seems a mixture of strategies which makes it even more difficult.

Money driving the changes as Gov can't afford to keep furloughing, which will become an additional pressure on clubs, but also trying to get sport restarted is money driven and stirring up a lot of questions from players regarding health, interesting article today on this from Jobi McAnuff:

BAME players are 2 to 3 times more likely to die from virus than non BAME.

World Cup style team camps is the answer to finish 19/20.

For 20/21 hopefully that is no longer necessary.

That's just scaremongering at this point. As not a single footballer has died, that cannot be claimed. We know BAME people have higher death rate but many factors involved and nothing conclusive yet - location, housing situation, high involvement in front line work, and general health all factors in that figure.

I’m not sure how you can call facts scaremongering.

The study you have posted refers to BAME being more likely to live in cities and cramped accomodation. More likely to work in high risk, front line jobs. More likely to have conditions like diabetes.

Those are the facts. Nothing in there says that BAME footballers are more likely to die than white footballers. Saying that is misrepresenting the facts.

However, despite people from ethnic minorities being younger on average than the white British population, and therefore theoretically less susceptible to infection, they were found to have higher death rates. After adjusting for age, s x, and geography, the authors of the IFS report found that the death rate for people of black African descent was 3·5 times higher than for white British people, while for those of black Caribbean and Pakistani descent, death rates were 1·7 times and 2·7 times higher, respectively.

Black footballer saying he’s concerned about higher death rate amongst black people isn’t scaremongering, it’s a valid concern from someone, backed up by more and more research.

Not sure why you’re trivialising his concerns.

You posted that BAME footballers are 3 times as likely to die as white players, which is a false claim at this point.

More research is needed before you can make claims like that, at this point it's misrepresenting information. I've given reasons why I think that and you responded with a study that also gave those same reasons. I also said that it's multiple factors and nothing conclusive.

I never trivialised anything, it's insulting that you're suggesting that. This discussion is over, the comment was uncalled for.

When you say someone’s scaremongering you’re trivialising their concern.

I shouldn’t have said players, should have just saud people but point about BAME being higher risk is valid, whatever the background factors.

The point of the article is to prove those numbers are valid when you said it was scaremongering as if it was something made up to distract from some other reason.

I didn't say Jodi McNuff was scaremongering, I said you are. You posted that BAME players are 2 to 3 times more likely to die as white players which you have no evidence for and isn't supported by anything you've posted.

I challenged that with facts, you didn't like it so you accuse me of trivialising a black player's concerns.

I just explained about players/people.

The lancet article does support the fact that death rate higher amongst BAME than white.

I thought you were saying he was scaremongering hence the comments.

Really not sure how lancet can mention these figures yet you say they’re not correct.

I've not once said that these figures were incorrect. I said there are multiple factors for them (which are all mentioned in the study!!!) and at this point, it's false to claim BAME players are more likely to die than white players.

Read through the comments again and stop accusing me of saying things that I haven't.
