Football was shut down with barely 50 people countrywide having died, yet some want it to return when there are now hundreds still dying daily. Get a grip, it's a game.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

And if that game had any impact of other people dying, o would be against it. It doesn't and wont though.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
You know this, how?

Whilst footballers get tested, frontline health workers will still be dying because they cannot get tested. Something not right there.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Can't blame football.

If the clubs are willing to pay for their own testing facilities then good on them. It should have NO bearing on what testing other organisations are or aren't doing.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

They will be taking tests away from people that need them. Not in any scenario do football players need them as a priority, even if they jump the queue by paying fir them.

The general public will not take kindly to footballers getting tested over health or key workers.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Why would they be taking tests from others if they have their own testing facilities?

You do realise that the medical facilities at most top clubs are better equipped & staffed than some NHS medical facilities.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Tests don't need medical facilities, they need the tests, which are in short supply at the moment. If clubs are using them, someone else can't. They are use once then throw away.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yeah, they're in such short supply, you can purchase one online and have the test done in these people's accredited UK labs.

https://www.citydoc.org.uk/covid-19-home-testing-kit/

FFS you people are so fuсking desperate it's unreal.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Well done. You found a company that lets you order a maximum order of 5 tests. Football will require thousands. What of the government sending 50,000 tests to America because the labs can't handle them?

----------------------------------------------------------------------
All I did was show that tests can be ordered online. That was the top of results returned by Google.

Here is the second on the list.
https://www.better2know.co.uk/shop/products/home-testing-kits/covid-19-test

How about #3
https://bluehorizonbloodtests.co.uk/collections/covid-19-coronavirus-tests

BTW, this was to prove to sandy that football players will NOT be taking tests away from those that need them.

Also there are many, many labs in UK capable of processing these tests. There is now enough lab capacity to complete the 100k tests per day, the problem is the lack of facilities to actually get the swabs.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Again, you only responded to the bit of my comment that suits your narrative, with private companies processing small numbers of tests.

There may be lots of labs but it's simply not true to say that there are 'many many' capable of processing large numbers quickly:
https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-52603566

As a rough estimate there'll be 300 people at each game, there's 92 PL games left to play, so that's 27,600 tests at one per-person, per game. Though one won't be enough, players certainly will need regular testing. We could easily be talking over 100,000 tests. Probably more in reality. All of which will have to be processed immediately otherwise it'll be pointless.

This will not be achieved by private labs doing it on the side as an earner while they also work to fulfill government requirements. Hint: one of the sites you linked to has a commitment to do this, as I suspect most of them do.

What about all the tests needed for staff working in the accommodation for the players before and after games, never mind the likes of coach drivers and the likes.

If they wanted to be very thorough then everyones family that they lived with before quarantine would need to be tested for at least 7 days in case they were infected so they could remove players earlier to reduce chances of infecting more.

It will be a bit of a nightmare

So the government sent 50k tests to the US LAST WEEK due to operational problems partially caused by creating an entirely new lab network for processing the tests.

The over 100k tests you mentioned won't be all in 1 day, maybe over a period of 10 or more days when lab capacity will be even higher. The BBC article you linked to also quoted figures of over 195k tests returned over 2 days (Thursday & Friday) last week. Not quite 100k per day but damned close.

As the number of lighthouse labs increases, the number of tests increase in the 10s of thousands per day. This will free up capacity in private labs.

Which is all fine and good.

Once the testing capacity is there to get everyone tested in the NHS, care homes, doctors surgeries etc is there and there is extra capacity for 10s of thousands per week for sport that's fine. But we're not there yet.

All this crying of 'desperation' of people trying to apply human decency to this situation instead of oddly trying to justify football starting up when it isn't practical or safe is one of the worst tropes I've seen on this forum. Being on the side of the argument that says 'restart football whatever the cost' will not age well.

This should also be a concern for the sport, to be fair. Okay so the PL wants their Sky money, but what if the reputation of the game tanks because they're seen as disregarding public safety for a game? Watching unfit players who don't want to be there run around in empty stadiums is hardly a great look anyway.

What if one of the big name players catches Covid-19 and can't play the game again because of it's effects or even worse dies.

How would that look like to the rest of the World.Imagine if that player played for your team.Would you be ok with that because the season seen each team play 38 games.

Would you blame your club for wanting the games to restart or would you blame the league for restarting?

I think the overriding consideration should be the health and safety of all the players and staff and their families - and sadly this is not deemed as important as tv revenues. I just don’t think we should be talking about starting football back up again - the country is just not ready. There will be additional illnesses and possibly deaths. We need to get our priorities straight - as much as I love football, it’s just not that important.

Going to be the first time in a long time that broadcasters are going to have the upper hand when it comes to future negotiations. They could sink clubs if they wanted to,or drive the EPL into a corner and get a good deal to save clubs going bust

It's more than 10% of Brighton's annual turnover (and even then they made a loss last year).

Its almost 10% of west ham's turnover (they made a loss last year).

Its mire than 10% of Southampton's turnover.

10% of your annual income is not "chicken feed".
