The rules are clear IMO.

The bottom three at the end of the season shall be relegated.

The moment the season is declared to have ended(not voided, which is off the table) then the bottom three teams stand relegated as at that point going forward.

Norwich want the season ended so that they collect all the monies due, but then not get relegated as per the rules? Talk about having your cake and eating it.

If Leeds or Liverpool was coming up with these ridiculous suggestions they'd be getting slammed.

Webber is absolutely right. Furthermore, I'm really not sure why anyone seems to be suggesting PPG should be used to determine final placings when it's only 5 years since the EFL made the following quote following our abandoned game at Blackpool...

"it believes that league points should always be earned on the field of play"

The key word for me here is "always". Surely that makes PPG a non-starter, based on their own ideas on how points must be earned?

They didn't give a damn how many minutes were played so maybe we can finish the season really fast 9x10 mins. It's on the field after all

Blackpool were guaranteed 24th, Huddersfield potentially cost a 15th place finish. I'm sure they'd have done exactly the same if Huddersfield had been 3rd, needing a win for auto promo.

Lucky Germany have Bundesliga 1 and 2 so have both worked to start together.

So should it be called as it stands?

After all, whatever a team has at the moment is what they've earned on the pitch, no?

If Norwich avoid relegation, will they have earned that on the pitch?

Kamara, all Countries are trying to open up, and that's all football is trying to do!..

At what price is the same for all but, I'm sure that when football resumes it'll have the best hygiene/protection in place to protect everybody involved!..

" Lucky Germany have Bundesliga 1 and 2 so have both worked to start together."

Ken, the German Government have instructed the Bundesliga to find a way to finish the 3 liga, Youths and Women's football, something I don't think anyone else is even considering!..

Thousands of people have gone back to work this week in non-essential jobs. Why is football any different?

The government said that if you can't work from home, go to work. Footballers can very feasibly go to a training ground and be safe.

Yes this claim that football cannot be played because people have died is weird.

There were approx 500,000 deaths in the uk last year which means that on any given day there was an average of 1,370 deaths yet I have never heard anyone say that this is a reason for football to not take place.

Tbf, you're not six-inches away from one another, breathing on each other, touching your face, then touching someone else etc, much easier to social distance in other jobs, it's literally impossible to do it with a contact sport.

I think if the number of new infections were lower, like around the 100-150 per-day range, people would be more comfortable with it, but we're nowhere near that.

No crowds, self-isolating, numerous testing and now, turning your head away when you tackle, the football authorities are basically saying to players, "we know it's not safe but can you just get on with it anyway?"

There are people in "normal" jobs, who don't want to go back, there are people who haven't gone back even though their workplace is open, it's not like we've all gone flooding back the day after Boris' announcement, people, including sportsman, are still being cautious out of fears for their, and other people's, safety.

Which is why football isn't kicking off tomorrow. These players are simply being asked to prepare to be ready to play in a month's time when, one would hope, we will all be looking at a return to normalcy.

You say it’s literally impossible to social distance while playing a contact sport but I think you will find that Scott Wootton proved that not only is it possible to social distance from other players, you can also self isolate from the football at the same time.

Aye, but we haven’t handled this well tbf so you can see why players would be sceptical, I think there’s an inherent lack of trust in the footballing authorities which pre-dates Coronavirus too. Adding to that, people are also talking about a possible second wave of infectious after lockdown.

Big factor is footballers will be tested though. Travelling to work in cars, only coming into contact with other players who have been tested. It's as safe as any profession can be.

posted on 13/5/20

The worst part with the whole situation is the players!..

They'll be getting tested but at the same time trusted to do the right things at home!..

If everything is done the way its meant to be, then when players come together there shouldn't be anything to spread, so, players at home have to help which it should be argued the most will!..

If it goes wrong it'll be down to people not doing as they should at home, and those people are the ones that'll be putting fellow professionals at risk!..

----------------------------------------------------------------------
It's all opinions, but in the worst case scenario of no more football this season, I'd rather they ended it as it stood than go down some fabricated PPG route. At the stage of the season we're at, the form book often goes out of the window and you see a lot of teams become resurgent beyond anything they've shown all season. If PPG had any merit at all, then we'd all be cleaning up on our accumulators after the 3/4 point of the season given it's an easy thing to predict who would beat who at that stage...or not.

I strongly believe the league campaigns should be completed in full or promotion or relegation should be a moot point. I know others more closely affected will have opposing viewpoints and I fully understand and respect those as, if my team had more riding on things, I would also be feeling hard done by right now, but we aren't and as ever, I will always try and give my honest opinion as a fan of football and not Huddersfield Town.

As per my example, the EFL have already stated in the last 5 years that points should always (wish I could bold and underline that) be earned on the pitch. Not sometimes, or in most cases, but always. Whilst the circumstances are vastly different from the example I used (had a bee in my bonnet about it then and still do), these are still their very own words and based on their opinion of where points go if a game is not completed. Changing that standpoint now is weak, but then this is the EFL we're talking about. They've shown plenty of times in the past they aren't fit for purpose.

Nor are they now. Even if COVID deaths replaced ab equal number of other deaths then it would be 6oo out of 1370 or less than half. If COVID deaths were all additional deaths then it would be 600 out of about 1900 so not quite a third.

Either way the whole point is that there will be extensive testing and precautions taken before it is allowed to go ahead.
