I'd say one is good enough for a top four side.

Smalling maybe as fourth choice.

The others are mid table.

Five, as we’ve only two that can stay fit.

Maguire and Lindelof central.
Bailly and Jones to make the rest of the
back four. Not interested in the others.

Oops. Smalling in central midfiekd

Should have 5

Maguire, Bailly if he could stay fit

Smalling is good enough but likely to leave

Axl is still potential

The rest aren't good enough

None mate. Vertonghen and Alderweireld are past it. Foyth is useless and Dier is Dier but then this is about United centre backs not Spurs. Let's stay on topic.

If we want to get better than top four yeah. But I doubt we’ll be signing any cb’s when the attack is a bigger priority.

United have not won the league (in it's EPL incarnation) with less than 4 cbs worthy of the club.

They currently only have 3 on the books. Smalling, Maguire, Jones.

But that is just one of the long-running issues.

4 of them are good backups

A squad should have 4 centre-backs, however despite us having around eight, it's amazing how often the mast majority are injured.

Top 4: Maguire and Bailly

Potential: Lindelof

How Jones is still on our books deserves a life size statue. The man has genuinely stole a living.

I don’t think there’s such a thing as a top four defender, or defence. The difference between one and one that plays for a Europa League team can be negligible. The quality of the attack is more important, as we found out last season when failure to put away Chelsea, Huddersfield and Cardiff in our last three games cost us top four, and that was with a really shiiiiit defence.

Keep:
Maguire (good enough for any top 4 team)
Bailly (Needs to stay injury free)
Lindelof (Not suited against every PL opposition)
Tuanzebe (Potentially has the best set of attributes to partner Maguire, but it's only potential right now)

Sell:
Smalling (Cash in. He's suddenly deemed good enough after a good season at Roma while many wanted him out for years)
Jones (If he wasn't always injured, maybe he could have been a player. But that time has passed. 2 years ago. Needs to be sold)
Rojo (other than his attitude on the field, probably our worse CB alongside Jones)

We do need one more CB if we can sell those 3. This season we've had Bailly and Tuanzebe out for most of it and I don't think our luck with injuries will change.

4 first team CBs with maybe one youngster in reserve.

Ironically they seem to be the most broken players in the game at the moment.

Maguire is good enough
Smalling as back up

Jones & Bailly are a pair of walking catastrophe’s, capable of good displays but will ultimately blow up, so with that in mind, need selling along with Rojo

Axel needs an opportunity to prove himself, but we need a partner for the slab

Oh I forgot Lindelof - He’s $hiit

posted on 26/5/20

PL sides playing in European competition need five CBs. That isn’t even up for debate.

Given that we cannot rely on Jones or Bailly, both of whom have demonstrated repeatedly that they cannot stay fit, and that Smalling looks to be leaving, we probably need two over the next 24 months.

I’d be hoping for one top draw CB to partner Maguire sooner rather than later, and another to bolster the squad as the three above are turned over.

Maguire
New partner
Lindelof
Tuanzebe
One more

posted on 26/5/20

Ole likes Lindelof, so he’ll be partnering Maguire again I reckon, unless Bailly miraculously manages to stay fit.

We’ll be pouring all our resources into the attack this summer.

Yep; I think that’s how it’ll go.

Maguire is not good enough if you want to play a high line defence. He is good for a top 4 finish but not if you want to win the league and champions league.

He is good in a low block system which wants to play on the counter attack.
